“Batman V Superman” Wins Box Office, Despite Huge Second Weekend Drop
Batman V Superman didn’t show as much superhero might at the box office during its second weekend, but it still easily held on to the number one spot on the Top 10 chart. As Gossip Cop reported, DC Comics’ Batman V Superman, with Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, had a record-breaking opening last week. The film brought in close to $170 million, becoming the highest-grossing March debut of all time. But now for its second weekend, proceeds dropped 68 percent, a huge amount for a superhero film.
And yet, with a haul of $52.4 million, Batman V Superman was still number one at the box office. Coming in a distant second place was the animated Disney movie Zootopia with $20 million in ticket sales. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 had a third-place finish with $11.1 million. Another sequel, God’s Not Dead 2, starring Melissa Joan Hart, opened in fourth with $8.1 million. And fellow faith-based film, Miracles From Heaven, secured fifth place with $7.6 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Allegiant in sixth with $5.7 million, while 10 Cloverfield Lane nabbed seventh with $4.8 million. Meet The Blacks came in eighth place with $4.1 million, and Eye in the Sky was ninth with $4 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Deadpool with $3.5 million.
