“Batman V Superman” Breaks Box Office Records – See Weekend’s Top 10!
What bad reviews? Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice showed superhero strength at the box office, despite taking a pummeling from critics. The new DC Comics movie, which stars Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, broke multiple box office records. The film now lays claim to having the biggest March opening of all time, the biggest Easter weekend opening, and the biggest pre-summer opening day and weekend. But that’s not all.
Batman V Superman is also Warner Bros.’s highest-debut ever, topping Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Perhaps needless to say then, but the critically-maligned film also crushed its box office competition and took the number one spot with $170.1 million in ticket sales. And even less surprisingly, there’s a big drop to get to the rest of the Top 10 chart.
Zootopia came in a distant second-place finish with $23.1 million. In its first weekend, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 nabbed third with $18.1 million. Coming in fourth and fifth places were Miracles From Heaven and Allegiant, with $9.5 million and $9.4, respectively.
Rounding out the Top 10 were 10 Cloverfield Lane at number six, with $6 million, followed by seventh place finisher Deadpool, with $5 million. London Has Fallen secured eighth with $2.9 million, while Hello, My Name Is Doris took ninth with $1.7 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Eye In The Sky, with $1 million.
