‘Batman v Superman’ Cast Respond To Bad Reviews (VIDEO)
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters this Friday and fan excitement is at an all-time high, but the reception from critics has been predominantly negative. In a new interview, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and more of the film’s cast respond for the first time to the bad reviews. Watch the video below!
The highly-anticipated superhero movie is currently sitting at a lukewarm 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, with major outlets such as The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and The Hollywood Reporter all panning it. But Cavill, who stars as Superman, told Yahoo Movies, “What is really going to matter is what the audience says, because they’re the ones buying tickets.” The actor added, “The audience’s voice is loudest and after this weekend the audience, at least partly, will have spoken.” Meanwhile, Affleck, who plays Batman, seemed slightly annoyed by the topic, and simply stated, “I agree.”
Amy Adams, who co-stars as Superman’s love interest Lois Lane, said, “None of us are making the movies for the critics. You can’t go into it with that perspective.” The actress went on to express that it’s more important the “fans like it,” and insisted, “So far the reaction has been really positive on that front.” Adams added, “If you’re interested in a film you should see it and form your own opinion rather than just going on the word of [critics].”
When asked about the negative critical response, Wonder Woman Gal Gadot assured the interviewer, “I think the movie’s great. It’s huge, it’s massive… I think that they nailed it, and I really enjoyed it.” Jesse Eisenberg, who plays villain Lex Luthor, admitted, “I can’t read [reviews] because I don’t even watch the movies I’m in. I get very critical.”
The actor continued, “I don’t like reading stuff either. I find it distracting, I guess, or unnerving.” But when the interviewer informed Eisenberg that despite the mostly poor reviews, “Everyone is praising” his performance, the actor joked, “In that case, I’ll read everything, and I look forward to seeing the film.” Director Zack Snyder additionally offered, “It is what it is.” Watch below the Batman v Superman cast responding to the bad reviews!
