Barbara Walters Donates $10 MILLION To New York Hospital
Barbara Walters is donating $10 million to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
The veteran newscaster, who retired from “The View” earlier this year, has broken up the money into gifts for separate projects.
The latest installment goes to the new Barbara Walters Acute Care Treatment Center, which will be dedicated on Wednesday.
Walters previously funded a reception and welcome area in the Adult Emergency department in 2012, and renovated a waiting room for relatives of cardiac care patients last year.
The journalist tells The Wall Street Journal that she is able to donate such a large amount after “working a very long time,” joking, “I’ve been working since Abe Lincoln.”
The New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center is very close to Walters’ heart — literally.
In 2010, Walters underwent heart surgery at the facility, having one of her aortic valves replaced.
What do you think of Walters’ donation?
