Azealia Banks Twitter Suspended After Racist, Homophobic Tweets
Azealia Banks’ Twitter was suspended on Thursday, nearly two days after she attacked Zayn Malik with a flurry of racist and homophobic tweets.
The Twitter page for @AZEALIABANKS now redirects to a page with the title, “Account suspended.” A message reads, “This account has been suspended. Learn more about why Twitter suspends accounts, or return to your timeline.” The news has prompted “#AzealiaGotSuspendedParty” to start trending on Twitter.
As Gossip Cop reported, Banks went after Malik on Tuesday, accusing him of copying one of her music videos. She fired off dozens of messages, including ones in which she called him a “n*gga” and “f*ggot.” The rapper also referred to the singer’s mom as a “dirty refugee,” and made a number of disparaging references to his racial and religious background.
The messages got Banks fired from an upcoming London music festival, and many on Twitter began calling for her account to be suspended. But this was not the first time the performer has engaged in such vulgar behavior. As Gossip Cop has noted, Banks has previously gone on a number of racist and homophobic rants on Twitter, and targeted celebrities ranging from Beyonce and Nicki Minaj to even Sarah Palin.
Other stars who have been hit with her vitriol include Lady Gaga, T.I., Iggy Azalea and Erykah Badu. It’s unclear if Banks will be permitted to make a new Twitter account. A rep could not be reached for comment on the suspension.
