Azealia Banks Slams Sarah Palin Again After Lawsuit Threat
The two began their war of words after Banks posted a series of disparaging tweets about Palin, after she mistook a satirical article that joked Palin had said black people willingly accepted slavery. Not realizing the story was fake, Banks fired off a slew of NSFW tweets, including one suggesting that Palin should be gang-raped by black men.
On Tuesday, Palin announced she will bring a lawsuit against Banks. “I’ve had enough of the unanswered threats and attacks against my family and me,” she said in a statement to People. “So, for the first time I’m going to enjoy the only retribution some protected ‘celebrities’ seem to understand — I’m suing Azealia Banks and can’t wait to share my winnings with others who have gone defenseless against lies and dangerous attacks far too long.”
Not long after, Banks took to her Tumblr account, posting a lengthy apology and explanation for her comments. “Since learning that the article was not published officially, I sincerely apologize for any emotional distress or reputational scarring I may have caused you,” Banks wrote. “I never said you should be raped. I used the term ‘run a train,’ which is slang for group sex, NOT for ‘rape.’ There are many distinctions between the two. As a woman, I would never trivialize something as lewd and criminal to provide myself any sort of comic relief because it simply… just isn’t funny,” she continued in the post.
But the rapper ended her long apology by taking aim at Palin’s daughter, writing, “If Bristol Palin listened to my music she probably wouldn’t have all those cotdamn kids!!!!” And Banks later went on to use Twitter to slam Palin yet again. “LOL, if Sarah Palin actually decides to sue me i’ll only use the controversy to make myself an even larger American Cultural Figure,” she tweeted.
She continued to rip Palin in a series of tweets, writing, “The Sarah Palin page in history will be condensed to a footnote in the Azealia Banks chapter. Well behaved women seldom make history.” Banks added, “When you’re a public figure who courts attention, you can’t sue ppl for making jokes. Freedom of Speech girllllyyyyy,” and “Everyone can tell you’re spreading them cheeks for Mr. Trump Sarah….. you ain’t got to lie.” Palin has not yet responded to the new attacks.
