Iggy Azalea Fires Back After Azealia Banks Slams Her Silence About “Black Issues”
Azealia Banks took to Twitter on Wednesday to slam Iggy Azalea for keeping silent when it comes to “black issues” in America, following the grand jury decision not to indict officer Daniel Pantaleo for putting Eric Garner in a chokehold that resulted in his death.
Banks tweeted, “its funny to see people Like Igloo Australia silent when these things happen… Black Culture is cool, but black issues sure aren’t huh? If you’re down to ride with us b*tch you gotta RIDE ALL THE WAY. Don’t just be down to ride Black D*ck….. If you with us you WITH US!!!!” she added, seemingly referencing Azalea’s relationship with Nick Young.
Banks further noted, “LOL… IM PETTY, but its so true, ugh, that wannabe black girl sh*t makes me wanna throw a jar of my piss at her LMFAOOOO. Like, fill a jar with piss and mayo and eggs and just dump that sh*t on that b*tch’s head LMFAOOOOOOO.” She continued, “‘EVERYBODY WANNA BE BLACK, BUT DON’T NOBODY WANNA BE BLACK’ – PAUL MOONEY.”
The rapper went on to blast the media for its role in Azalea’s success and comparisons to Nick Minaj. “And the media needs to STOP trying to move igloo in on what Nicki has established,” she wrote. “Nicki is a hard-working rap-BEAST. stop trying to degrade and BELITTLE Our culture with this f*cking kkk iggy sh*t.”
Azalea took to Twitter early Thursday morning to issue a much more measure response to Banks’ comments. “Theres more to sparking a change than trolling on social media,” she tweeted. “World issues shouldnt be used as a poor excuse to promote fan battles.” The singer continued, “Make sure you do something to let YOUR government know how you feel when something is unjust, not JUST your followers on twitter… Make sure you sign petitions, hit the streets and protest or donate to groups helping to support and rebuild the community too.”
Azalea went on to share a link to an article titled, “5 Ways You Can Help Ferguson, Its Protesters, and Mike Brown’s Family,” writing, “HERE ARE SOME ACTUAL PRODUCTIVE WAYS YOU CAN HELP.” She added, “Also try not to judge anothers support or ‘lack there of’ solely on if they have ranted on twitter about it, thats not right or helpful. The world is too hung up on what is or isnt said on twitter. theres an actual world out there and multiple ways you can promote change.”
The Australian rapper advised, “Be mad but be productive, please! Night twitter kids. Peace be with you. xoxo.” Before ending her series of tweets, Azalea noted, “Also the fact the actual link i posted about helping has the LEAST RT’s on my timeline lets me know your real concern is not awareness. CLEARLY your CONCERN is finding any reason to promote shade, trolling, fan fights and memes. I know you guys by now, you don’t fool me.” She added, “respect and love to all who did RT the link about ways to get out there and actually do something. you guys rock, nighty night.” What do you think of Bank’s comments and Azalea’s response?
