Austin Allsup performed “Breakdown” during the last Knockouts of “The Voice” season 11 on Monday. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, Allsup had a connection to eventual coach Blake Shelton before he ever stepped on stage for his Blind Audition. As it turned out, Allsup once opened for the country superstar more than a decade ago. It was then no surprise to see them happily join forces on the NBC competition.

Allsup handily defeated Preston James during the Battles, and now sought to emerge victorious again during the show’s third phase. For that, he chose to sing Tom Petty’s “Breakdown.” Key advisers Faith Hill and Tim McGraw gave some advice during rehearsals, such as suggesting the aspiring country star “open up more” with his voice.

Come show time, Allsup was pitted again another Team Blake artist, Gabe Broussard, who picked Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” as his track. And while Broussard favored showing emotion, Allsup rocked out with his guitar. Of course, both received applause, but only one came off as a seasoned performer, perhaps in part because Broussard is only 15.

Shelton told Allsup, “You’re breaking out of the pack.” And to keep that “momentum” going, the contestant was named the winner over Broussard. Watch below!
