‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Trailer: Michael Fassbender Stars In Video Game Adaptation
The first trailer for Assassin’s Creed, the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the popular video game series, has just been released online. Watch the action-packed preview below!
Michael Fassbender stars in the movie as Callum Lynch, a drifter who discovers he is the descendant of a 15th century Spanish assassin, whose experiences and memories he’s able to tap into via a new technological device. Using his newfound warrior skills, Lynch must battle his ancestor’s age-old nemeses, the Templars, in the present day.
A movie version of Assassin’s Creed had been rumored ever since the original game was released in 2007, but now it’s finally come to fruition with a cast that also includes Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael Kenneth Williams. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel, who also directed both Fassbender and Cotillard in last year’s big-screen adaptation of Macbeth.
There are nearly 20 installments in the video game series, so if the film adaptation is a hit, there’s a good chance this could become a major franchise. In fact, it was recently announced that a follow-up is already in the early stages of development. Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21.
