Ashton Kutcher Defends Miley Cyrus Against CNN Attack

Truth rating: 10

After a so-called “racy” video of Miley Cyrus dancing suggestively with The Last Song producer Adam Shankman leaked online earlier this week, Cyrus has an unexpected defender.

Ashton Kutcher.

The actor took to his Twitter account to fire back at CNN’s Rick Sanchez after the “Rick’s List” host used his show to question Cyrus’ actions.

After tweeting about the video and showing it on air, Sanchez said, “Could I just speak for a moment as a father and as someone who has an eight-year-old?…That’s troublesome. And just the physicality of it alone and the fact that she’s 16-years-old. And this isn’t posing for a Hollywood magazine or a picture, because we understand that when you get into that arena, you got to play along with that game kind of thing. I am troubled viewing that.”*

Sanchez added that if he saw his daughter dancing like Cyrus, she “would be dragged [out], and I don’t care if it’s kicking and screaming for behaving that way. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s crazy.”

Kutcher objected to Sanchez’s comments, tweeting, “ur [sic] comments on Miley R completely unwarranted. She’s 17. What is this the movie Footloose? judgment is unbecoming.”

“I think it’s important to think about the context of the event she was at” he continued in another tweet. “It’s not like she was at a club w/ some stranger.”

Kutcher also suggested that if Sanchez wanted to “report about exploitation of teenagers report on this,” and provided a link to an article on children being sold as sex slaves.

I’m with Sanchez. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the video. You want to talk about “unbecoming”? Let’s talk about a little 17 year old girl grinding on a 40-year old man. I don’t care if she knows him. I don’t care if it was a joke. I don’t care if it was all in good fun. The point is, she is a role model for girls everywhere, who are now going to see her behaving in a way which is not at all appropriate.

Please. People are sooo exxagerating. The video wasn’t even that bad.

Im with Ashton Kutcher on this. This is the first time in my life ive defended Miley Cyrus. Im not a fan of hers to be honest. I am 19 and have seen girls dance WAY worse and its true what he says, you have to take it in context and judgement is unbecoming. Adam Shankhman is outly gay so its not like she was trying to do anything with him. It was a party and so not a big deal.

I think if Sanchez’s or my own eight year-old were grinding on anyone, we should get them professional help and re-examine all the caregivers and adults, entrusted with our kids. Fortunately though, young Miss Cyrus was sixteen or seventeen and from what I saw, it was pretty much par for the course in a lot of music videos and if memory serves, there may have actually been separation between the bodies, throughout.

IOW: A sixteen year-old and an eight year-old, two different things.

I’m with Ashton on this one. First, the video isn’t that bad. Miley is dancing the way people that age (and older) dance. Two, Shankman is openly gay so there was no sexual intent there. Three, although she was only 16 at the time, Miley Cyrus is hardly your average 16 year old considering the working experience she has. And lastly, the idea that Miley ‘needs to set an example for her young fans’ does not apply here because it was a closed party that was NOT meant for broadcast. It was a private moment where Miley wasn’t ‘working’ and therefore is not required to take her young audience/fans into consideration.

I’m with Ashton on this one as well. Shes been through WAY more then any other 17 year old. And honestly the video isn’t even all that bad. There are a couple of things that I think may but going to far but I mean she’s in a business where everyone wants Sex… its what sells. Its what gets people talking. So if we dont want to see minors using sex to sell stuff then maybe we shouldn’t buy into it, talk about it or act like it’s the most shocking thing ever. Everything now-a-days is about sex. EVERYTHING! This is no different.

Oh ya… and back in the day… like Cherrie Currie. They were 15 when they started the runaways and look at what she did. This shouldn’t be a shocker to anyone. Let her do thing. If I see any sluttier before she’s 18 then ill have a problem.

Wait a second. I just viewed this video of her dancing with this man and its completely disgusting. (video of Miley Cyrus dancing suggestively with The Last Song producer Adam Shankman) http://youtu.be/Ioy4f1-j6-8
Its one thing to be selling sex in your music video .. but this is just to much.

I’m with Sanchez on this. Miley was 16 when this was filmed. It dosen’t matter if he man is gay. He was in his 40′s and she was grinding her butt into him. If I caught my kid doing that she would be grounded big time. Parents are allowing their children to grown up sexually too fast. There’s plenty of time for that when they are adults.

I don’t like Miley Cyrus at all! Hey Miley do the world a favor and put on some clothes!

I think it’s almost funny how people are reacting to this video. She’s 17 years old. Whether you like or not, kids and teenagers ARE doing this. Yes, even your kids! At school dances, sneaking into clubs, at parties, etc. People are quick to judge Miley, but jeez, she’s 17. She’s not 9 years old anymore. She’s with dancing with a gay man that she has known for years as a choreographer and family friend! Why is this a problem?
People are ripping her apart because she’s supposed to be a “role model” for young girls. It’s not HER job to parent YOUR kids. If you don’t want your kids looking up to Miley, don’t let them watch her shows, movies and music videos. Your kids aren’t always going to idolize someone you want them to idolize. It’s your job to guide them in the right direction and be careful of what they take in from the media. Don’t blame Miley for being a completely normal 17 year old. Honestly, people are delusional if they don’t think this is the norm for teenagers these days.
(To be clear, I don’t live in some rundown, sketchy neighbourhood. I live in southern Ontario in a very nice town. In high school – over 5 years ago – young teenagers were doing these things. Get used to it!)

I’m with Ashton. Despite her fame, Miley deserves the chance to be a regular teenager. And “naughty” dancing with close friends is part of that. I remember doing that with friends (male and female–sometimes both at the same time) when I was in middle school and junior high (ages 11-14) in the gym of the church that hosted Fifth Quarter dances (dances held after the town’s home football/basketball games) and at school sponsored dances. Granted, my friends were usually my age or a year or so older and not forty year-old gay men. Though, thinking about it, I was dirty dancing with guys who *wanted* to get into my pants whereas Miley was dancing with a guy who has no interest in the interior of her pants…

(If you’re wondering, I’m from a small town in Arkansas…Mock if you want, but remember that AR is located in the Bible Belt and you’ll always find more churches than liquor stores, sex shops, and gentlemen’s clubs down here.)
