‘Pretty Little Liars’ Star Ashley Benson Lost Acting Role For Being “Too Fat”
Ashley Benson, star of the hit show “Pretty Little Liars,” reveals in a new interview that she was recently told she was “too fat” for an acting role. Benson also goes on to argue that Hollywood’s mentality about women’s bodies could easily “cause a serious eating disorder” among young actresses.
Benson, who’s featured on the cover of the January issue of Ocean Drive, talks about rejection in show business. “I was just told I was too fat for a part,” says the actress. “I’m a size 2!” She adds, “I cried for 30 minutes, but then you have to let it roll off your shoulders or it could cause a serious eating disorder.”
Benson goes on to explain how performers “hear they need to lose weight more times than they should.” But she admits, “It does make you stronger, though. Because if you let that affect you, you can’t be in this industry. You’d go crazy.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Benson slammed a heavily photoshopped “Pretty Little Liars” promo poster in 2013. At the time, she wrote on Instagram, “Our faces in this were from 4 years ago… and we all look ridiculous. Way too much photo shop. We all have flaws. No one looks like this. It’s not attractive.”
Benson further discusses the topic of photoshopping in her Ocean Drive interview, noting, “I saw photos from a shoot of myself just the other day and thought… That doesn’t even look like me!” She adds, “I hate to think that girls are like, ‘She’s so skinny! Her skin is so perfect!’ I have pimples just like they do.”
