“Jessica’s Mission: Save Ashlee!” blares a headline from Star magazine, which claims Jessica Simpson “has staged an intervention for her troubled 26-year-old sister Ashlee.”

The mag’s “sources” say the younger Simpson, who last February filed for divorce from Pete Wentz, “is not handling [the breakup] well,” and is “downing eight to 10 bottles of wine a week” to cope with the “painful split.”

According to another so-called “insider” for the tabloid, “Jessica is on a mission to save Ashlee from self-destructing, and told her to funnel her angst into songwriting.”

So, is the “Pieces of Me” singer really on the verge of cracking?

Not at all.

A source close to the Simpson family tells Gossip Cop there was never an intervention, and the allegations about Ashlee drinking too much are absolutely “not true.”

As for the assertion that Ashlee is “not handling [the breakup] well,” just yesterday Gossip Cop reported that she was spotted kissing and holding hands with “Boardwalk Empire” star Vincent Piazza.
