Arnold Schwarzenegger says he wanted to “smash” Donald Trump’s face after the president insulted him over the “Celebrity Apprentice” ratings. The former governor makes the comment in an upcoming issue of Men’s Journal.

The magazine released a preview of its cover story online, specifically highlighting the opening portion where Schwarzenegger is asked about his feud with Trump. As Gossip Cop reported, Trump slammed Schwarzenegger on Twitter after “Celebrity Apprentice” premiered last month. His first reaction, says the former bodybuilder, was, “Don’t get into a stinking contest with a skunk.”

“I said, ‘Let’s sit on it for an hour,’ ” Schwarzenegger recalls, but then he changed his mind, explaining, “I called my assistant and said, ‘I think what we really should do is request a meeting and go back to New York. And then we just smash his face into the table.'”

At this, the interviewer says Schwarzenegger laughed, before adding, “And then I think, ‘We can’t do that, either. I think I have to be above all of that and put him on the spot.'” That thinking is what led Schwarzenegger to respond to Trump on Twitter, encouraging the president to “work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings.”

“I think people really reacted well to that response,” Schwarzenegger reflects. “I sound more presidential and more diplomatic and more elder-statesman — that’s exactly the way Donald should be.” Of course, now there’s another chapter to this feud.

On Thursday, after this interview was already conducted, Trump slammed Schwarzenegger again at the National Prayer Breakfast. That jab was also tied to “Celebrity Apprentice,” as was a tweet from the president on Friday, which read, “Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice…but at least he tried hard!”

Schwarzenegger, who on Thursday suggested he and Trump “switch jobs,” replied to the tweet hours later with a link to a news story about releasing his tax returns. Gossip Cop suspects this feud is far from over, though it will almost certainly not involve any actual face-smashing.
