Ariana Grande: “A Girl Can Be Friends With Something With A D*ck And Not Hop On It”
Ariana Grande has had it with the rumors linking her romantically to Niall Horan, and even more so, she’s fed up with the notion that a girl is considered slutty just for hanging out with someone of the opposite sex. See photo below.
The pop star posted a massive rant on Twitter Sunday morning, in which she slams “double standard[s] and misogyny.” “Being empowered… is not the same as being a ‘bitch,'” began Grande. “HAVING SOMETHING TO SAY… is not the same as HAVING A BAD ATTITUDE.”
“I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present or future PROPERTY/POSSESSION,” continued Grande. “I… do not. belong. to anyone. but myself. and neither do you.” The singer went on to say that she comes “from a long bloodline of female activists,” and references her aunt Judy, who she says was the first Italian American female president of Washington, D.C.’s press club. Further referring to Gloria Steinem’s gender equality work, Grande says, “We’re still not there yet.”
She explained, “If a woman has a lot of sex (or any sex for that matter)… she’s a ‘slut.’ If a man has sex… HE’S. A. STUD. a BOSSSSSS. a KING. If a woman even TALKS about sex openly… she is shamed! But if a man talks or RAPS freely about all the women (or more commonly used ‘bitches’/’hoes’… how lovely) he’s had, he’s regaled. If a woman is seen with a friend with a penis, there is an immediate assumption of romance or sex and she is labeled!!! If a man is seen with a woman… his status is elevated/celebrated. ‘AWW SH*T HE SMASHED!!!!'”
“The double standard and misogyny are ever present,” said Grande. “I can’t wait to live in a world where people are valued not by who they’re dating/married to/attached to, having sex with (or not)/seen with… but by their value as an individual.” She urged fans, “I want the people reading this to know that they are MORE THAN enough on their own.”
Grande’s lengthy post came after she was spotted with One Direction’s Horan several times in London over the last week, while she was in town for her “Honeymoon Tour,” leading less-reputable outlets to suggest the pals are dating. Prior to her Twitter essay, Grande complained to The Sun, “A girl can be friends with something with a d*ck and not hop on it. We live in a horrendously one-track-minded world.”
“I’m tired of needing to be linked to a guy. I’m not Big Sean’s ex, I’m not Niall’s possible girl. I’m Ariana Grande,” she continued. “If that’s not enough, then don’t talk to me!” The star added, “I’m on this feminist rampage at the moment. I’m me. I’m Ariana. Peace out.” Check out Grande’s full Twitter message below, and tell us what you think.
