Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross BET Awards Video 2016: Watch “Hamilton” Parody Opening!
Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross opened the 2016 BET Awards on Sunday with a parody of Hamilton. Check out the video below!
Dressed in costumes from the 1700s, Anderson asked the crowd if they’ve seen the Broadway hit. “Don’t trip. I ain’t seen it either,” he cracked. Ross then said they would take a look at 2016’s “hottest tracks” in the style of the hip-hop musical.
That included spoofs of “I Can’t Feel My Face” and more songs. Anderson asked afterward, “Why does BET have us dressed like the white people in ‘Roots’?” The comedic actor then brought out singer Anthony Hamilton for an awkward take on “Down In The DM.” The co-hosts went on to tease a night of surprises, as well as multiple tributes to Prince.
This marks the second year in a row that Anderson and Ross have co-hosted the ceremony, and they’re both nominees tonight as well. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, the “Black-ish” co-stars kicked off last year’s show with a musical performance set to “Conqueror,” featuring funny lyrical references that mocked themselves, some of the nominees, and the state of black culture.
