Anne Hathaway Amused By “Trainwreck” Diss, Predicts Oscar For Amy Schumer
In Trainwreck, which opened on Friday to much critical acclaim, there’s a scene where Bill Hader’s character receives an award for his charity work. As he carries it around with him, Schumer’s character tells him he’s “acting like Anne Hathaway on Oscar night,” referring to Hathaway being photographed at every Oscar party clutching her statue. The joke implied Hathaway had acted arrogant about her Academy Award win, playing off her supposedly unlikeable persona.
Hathaway actually saw the movie on Monday, and it’s not clear if she knew about the diss going into it. But as soon as it ended, she posted a picture of her ticket stub on Instagram along with the message, “Dear @AmySchumer, Don’t pretend like when you win your Oscar – which you could for your brilliant and refreshing writing and/or acting in @TrainwreckMovie – you won’t tote it around to every Oscar party you go to. Way to slay.”
Hathaway is one of a number of celebrities who have been praising Schumer for the film. Other stars who have sent tweets or posted Instagram messages about Trainwreck include Jerry Seinfeld, Jessica Alba, Julianne Moore, Selena Gomez, Seth MacFarlane, Jenny McCarthy and Dwayne Johnson. UPDATE: Schumer took notice of Hathaway post, and tweeted Tuesday afternoon, “I love you Anne Hathaway. I have no problem selling out and telling you that that was @JuddApatow s joke he made me say! #truth.” For his part, director Apatow wrote on Twitter, “We love Anne Hathaway! She just wins Oscars cause she is awesome. Thus — at the party she has to carry it.”
