Anne Hathaway: Hosting The Oscars With James Franco Was My ‘Most Embarrassing’ Moment — WATCH VIDEO!
Anne Hathaway ranked her most humiliating moments on Monday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” telling the talk show host that nothing was more embarrassing in her life than co-hosting the Academy Awards with James Franco or accepting her Oscar win for best supporting actress in a dress that made her nipples look erect.
Hathaway got on the subject of embarrassing experiences when explaining to Fallon that she recently found herself in an awkward situation while she was honoring her Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey at a recent American Cinematheque gala. She noted that she had written some kind words about McConaughey but soon realized the fellow speakers Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner were telling funny stories about the actor instead of giving a speech, like the one she had prepared. “I’m like, ‘Oh God, I haven’t known Matthew that long. I don’t have that many stories,'” she said. “While I am thinking about what I am going to say, they are like one second, [and] up pops a clip of Sandra Bullock.”
She continued, “Let me tell you something ladies and gentleman. If you don’t want to follow anybody, you especially don’t want to follow Sandra Bullock. It is impossible. She is perfect. She is cute and she is funny and she is quick. She is just everything.” After being ushered onstage, following Bullock’s clip, the Les Misérables star said she made the decision to go ahead with her original speech. After saying the first line, she recalled, “the teleprompter broke.”
“It was embarrassing, but the thing about me and embarrassment is you have to remember is that it all happens on a scale,” Hathaway pointed out. “If you think about embarrassment on scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a person walking down the street and 10 is, for me, co-hosting the Oscars with James Franco, which, by the way, is only tied with being honored to accept an Oscar while wearing a dress that I knew made it look like my nipples are erect.”
“I forgot about that dress. That’s the best,” Fallon said of the pink Prada gown Hathaway had worn to the 2013 Academy Awards. “I can’t forget about it,” Hathaway replied. “It haunts me still.” The actress also dished about another embarrassing moment, showing up to McConaughey’s house for a party on the wrong day. Despite the mix-up, she said, “He invited us in, got us drunk, and we had a great time.”
