Ann Curry Confirms: I’m Leaving Today

Truth rating: 10

Ann Curry has confirmed that she is leaving the “Today” show.

An official announcement will be made on Thursday morning’s broadcast.

Curry’s move, after just one year as co-host and days of intense speculation about her future, was confirmed in an interview with USA Today published late Wednesday.

“I’m going to have to tell our viewers. That’s what makes me more emotional than anything,” says Curry, adding, “I don’t want to leave them. I love them. And I will really miss them.”

Curry admits it is “going to be a bit of a tough day.”

She says she was “hurt deeply” by recent leaks and press reports concerning her uncertain “Today” tenure, and that she was not given enough time to work out whatever kinks cropped up in the show during her year alongside Matt Lauer.

This spring, “Today” lost in some weekly ratings to ABC competitor “Good Morning America” for the first time in 16 years.

Curry will stay with NBC News under the terms of a multi-year contract that makes her an “anchor-at-large” for “Today” and a “national/international correspondent.”

The new role will allow her to travel the world with a seven-person unit, covering major news stories.

She’ll contribute to shows like “Dateline” and the “NBC Nightly News.”

All the best Ann! You are a class act and you deserve the best. I won’t be watching much of the Today show – I will mss seeing her.

The Today treated her appalingly. They have absolutely no class, but she does. They just lost me as a regular viewer.

I can’t believe they are letting Ann go — after 15 years of service — and keeping Kathie Lee Gifford. NBC hasn’t had a good track record for loyalty have they? They screwed over Conan and now Ann Curry.

Matt Lauer is arrogant .The only reason I watched Today was because of Ann Curry. You are too good for the show Ann.Good luck to you in the future.GMA here I come!!

I’m really sad that this is happening to Ann I think she was a real asset to the “Today Show”. No one has any loyalty to anyone anymore. I wish Ann the best and I know she will land on her feet.

The prolems with the drop in ratings are certainly not due solely to Ann Curry. Can anyone say, “scapegoat?” I hope the ratings TANK now. They need to get rid of the overpaid, arrogant a$$ that is Matt Lauer! Also, this network getting rid of anyone and keeping Kathie Lee Gifford is laughable in its idiocy.

Ann, you are a class act. They were getting too silly anyway, you are much better than that. We want the real news. Let’s see who will get George C. or Brad Pitt & Angelina. They are real stars but also great humanitarians. Will not be watching………………

  • Agrm47

Ooops, you did great this morning, you delivered just enought to let them know that family does not stab you in the back and if ratings were low it was group effort. Your speech was great………….

  • Persianpickle

Be careful Savannah, when the ratings keep falling,Matt will stab you right in the back, too.

Anne Curry leaving the Today Show is definitely sad news, I have enjoyed watching her over the last 15 years and will miss seeing her deliver humanitarian news every day. It can’t be argued though, that she is indeed on to bigger and better things, I’m glad she will still be contributing to Dateline and NBC Nightly News. I missed the show where she made her announcement but I was able to record it on my Hopper. I was excited when my coworker at Dish suggested that I upgrade to the Hopper, I was able to watch the recording in the living room and then go to the family room and pick up where I left off. How convenient!

I will not be watching the “today show”. Anne Curry is a classy lady and hopefully she will land a job again in the news business. I will follow her. (unfortunately, we live in a disposable society, once used, it’s thrown away), sad.
