David Bowie Ex-Wife Angie Informed Of Death On “Celebrity Big Brother”
David Bowie’s ex-wife Angie, currently competing on the U.K. version of “Celebrity Big Brother,” was told on Monday of the rock legend’s death, several hours after it was officially announced. As a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother,” she has been completely blocked off from the outside world since the beginning of the show’s taping.
A representative for Channel 5, on which “Celebrity Big Brother” airs, announced in a statement that Angie “has been informed off-camera by her representatives.” Although she was given the option of leaving the show, Angie has “taken the decision to continue in the program.” The rep added that Angie will be given “appropriate support,” if she requests or needs it.
Angie and David Bowie married in 1970 and divorced in 1980. They had once child together, Duncan Jones. She actually discussed their relationship on an earlier episode of “Celebrity Big Brother,” and didn’t have the nicest things to say about her ex-husband, who she admitted not having seen in more than 30 years. Angie told another contestant, “I go to great lengths to avoid him. It was terrible when we broke up. It was awful.”
This isn’t the first time a “Big Brother” contestant has learned of a family death while in the house. Frankie Grande, the brother of Ariana Grande, learned of his grandfather’s passing from cancer while on the U.S. version of the show in July 2014. On the show, Grande read a letter out loud from his mother informing him of the news. He ultimately decided to stay on the show, as well.
