A number of outlets reporting that Angelina Jolie is in the process of adopting a baby from Syria focus on how it will impact her relationship with Brad Pitt… but don’t adequately cover the nature of a potential adoption itself.
The gossip press is consumed with the notion Jolie has fulfilled her desire for a seventh child, putting her at odds with a reluctant Pitt. The British Sun claims Jolie “is planning to add to her six children with a Syrian baby” and cites “U.S. reports” that the actress “has filed paperwork in her name only.” Meanwhile, OK! magazine splashed its cover with an “Angie’s Adopting… Without Brad!” announcement, later quoting an “insider” as saying Jolie “is determined to complete her rainbow family” despite Pitt’s protests.
Now blogs are running with the Syrian story as a way to keep Brangelina drama in the headlines. But in their rush to drive a wedge between the two, Gossip Cop suspects the tabs sped up the adoption claim without the facts.
OK! reports Jolie met the unnamed girl she wants to bring into her family during a U.N. Refugee Agency trip in October. Moved by the child’s account of fleeing extremists, Jolie made the decision to adopt, a “friend” explains to the mag, which cites a British newspaper “source” as saying the paperwork “has gone through.”
There are two issues here.
First of all, during her recent visit Jolie met with refugees who had fled to Syria – not Syrians. So it’s more than likely that if she adopts a girl she met during the United Nations trip, she is not Syrian.
Second, if the girl is Syrian, she’d be exceptionally difficult for Jolie to adopt. Gossip Cop spoke with the Syrian embassy and confirmed that “securing custody of Syrian orphans for immigration is extremely difficult as adoption is essentially illegal in Syria.” Laws concerning personal status matters are handled by religious authorities in that country, and a Muslim child would not be possible to adopt.
Since OK! and others mostly focus on how Jolie’s “single-minded mission has caused a major rift” with Pitt, of course, they ignore whether the process might cause a major rift with the law.
What bothers Gossip Cop about these stories is that the tabs act as though celebrities are constrained only by a small set of personal relationships. If Jolie ends up adopting this girl, it will somehow be construed as a sign of trouble with Pitt. If she doesn’t, then it’ll be reported as Pitt putting down his foot.
Either way the magazines succeed and sell.

Even if she was able to adopt a baby from Syria, I don’t get what the big deal would have been if she adopted without Brad. She adopted Pax without Brad because non-married couples can’t adopt together from Vietnam. Brad had to file for adoption here in the US. The tabloids are so stupid.
Why are the Tabloids so dead set on portraying Angelina Jolie has the most evil person in Hollywood and Brad Pitt as some innocent bystander? It’s been the same hatefulness towards Angelina from the tabloids every week for years. the same recycled crap and the readers never get tired of it.
Actually, they visited a SOS house in Jordan not Syria.(where that photo was taken. (Check the UNHCR.org’s web site) Both Pitt and Jolie were there. The children are Syrian’s that fled to Jordan.
It is impossible for any non Muslim to adopt a child from the middle east with Syria and Jordan having some of the strictest laws. In order to adopt you must be Muslim, you must be married and you must prove that you are unable to have your own children, meaning you must prove to be infertile at least 5 yrs infertile. . All of these things Jolie is not.

October 19, 2009: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited SOS Children’s Village Amman on October 1 at special invitation from Her Majesty Queen Noor. While Ms. Jolie had already visited the village in 2003, committing to covering the running costs of one family house, it was the first time Mr. Pitt had ever been to an SOS Children’s Village.
The children and mothers of the SOS Children’s Village in Amman were overjoyed to receive a visit from the very special friend, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and Academy Award winner, Angelina Jolie. The couple stated that their family was having a wonderful time in Jordan. Ms. Jolie also said, “The SOS model of providing care for children without parental care is one of the best, as they are still in a family setting within their own country. We hope more people learn about their programs and give them support.”

Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein, Honorary President of SOS Children’s Villages in Jordan, introduced the SOS Children’s Villages model to the country in 1983 and has worked tirelessly to help SOS flourish in Jordan ever since. Ms. Jolie acknowledged Queen Noor’s ongoing humanitarian work in helping refugees, stating, “We are very grateful to Her Majesty Queen Noor for all she has done for displaced Iraqis since 2003 and appreciate the dedication of King Abdullah and Queen Rania to their incredible humanitarian initiatives.”
In 2007, Angelina Jolie visited SOS Children’s Villages’ trauma therapy center at the Oure Cassoni refugee camp in Chad, one of twelve camps providing shelter, food and treatment for severely traumatized women and children who have escaped the horrors of Darfur. Ms. Jolie wanted to see the situation with her own eyes and make the international community aware of the plight of the people from Darfur. A few months later, SOS Children’s Villages was one of three agencies working in Chad who shared a one million dollar donation from the Jolie/Pitt foundation.

Ms. Jolie was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001 and has visited refugee camps all over the world to raise public awareness for the plight of displaced persons in regions of conflict. In 2006, she created the Jolie/Pitt Foundation together with Brad Pitt, which donates money to humanitarian organizations seeking to relieve human suffering.
SOS Children’s Villages is privileged to count such a dedicated humanitarian among its supporters and hopes to be able to welcome Ms. Jolie and her family again very soon.

The only thing I can say is, I think AJ and BP need to focus on the children they have. AJ “got” Mad prior to being with BP…..It is my opinion they need to focus on, give individual attention to, and provide attention to all six children in a healthy and positive manner. That is not saying, the nannies do the work. Everytime AJ has “gotten” a child or given birth to a child she claims she’s taking time off to bond with them, that’s yet to be seen. Oh, and when I said, “spend time with the children” I didn’t mean by exploiting them for profit.

Both Brad and Angelina seem to not only be inseparable as a couple, but as a family unit, with one working while the other is home with childen. In a society where a majority of familes are comprised of two parents who are working outside of the home during their children’s formative years, that’s an admirable system to emulate if one can afford to. How in helll you could possibly proclaim to know how much individual time Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie give their kids is beyond me, unless you are as much of an obsessed stalker as you sound. “The only thing I can say is,” I’m glad they have security with hateful bitter shrews who obsess over them and their family like you around.

Get a grip. The ‘team’ crap that very obviously has you so overwrought was damn near 5 years ago. MOVE ON. I’m sure there are plenty of OTHER famous people in Hollywood and elsewhere for you to judge, who have imploded, split up, and have torn their family asunder since Brad & Angie got together way back in 2004.

As for ‘exploiting children for profit,’ – please tell it to Tom, Katie & Suri who we see in mags and rags every day of the week. Ditto the Jen Garner & Ben Affleck kids. As for ‘Nannies,’ when you’re ready to start a crusade against child care in this country and around the world, you let me know – because the last time I checked, about 98% of the population used it, including families in Hollywood, some of whom only have ONE child! Why I saw a picture of Courtney Cox in a mag once, strolling on the beach, while her nanny played in the surf with her ONLY child.
So, I think if Angelina and Brad have a nanny or two for their 6 children, it’s more than fine. The public has seen Brad & Angelina’s twins, exactly TWO times since they came into this world, so WTF are you even talking about you nasty jealous fool??

Brad & Angie are SMART to control the dangerous tabloid/celebrity culture environment and eliminate the dangerous stalkerazzi. Their CHARITABLE JOLIE PITT FOUNDATION which has reaped the benefit from these photos has saved lives, rebuilt homes in NOLA, after Katrina given AID and supplies to our military, supported Drs W/O Borders, funded cancer research, built clinics and established schools among the poor and impoverished worldwide, and YET, YOUR DUMB ASSS, would have them just get attacked in the street, theor photos snapped for FREE while the Nantl Enquirer, STAR ragazine, and OuttaTouch profits INSTEAD of a clinic that might save thousands from dying of AIDS or Malaria????!!!
