Angelina Jolie Not “Giving Up Career” After Cancer Scare, Despite Report
Angelina Jolie is not retiring from movies because of her cancer scare, despite an OK! report claiming the actress-director has decided to leave her career to focus on her family. Gossip Cop can bust the story.
The outlet tries to add new drama to Jolie’s recent decision to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed due to genetically elevated risks. “Angie had a real shock with this latest cancer scare,” a so-called “insider” tells the magazine. “She loves her work, but it doesn’t come close in importance to her kids. She doesn’t ever want to be apart from them, even if it means putting her career on indefinite hold.”
According to the OK! source, “For Angie, this is a no-brainer. She will go ahead with the projects she already signed on to, but after that, she’s pulling back. She is taking a real break from the craziness of her life to finally just be a mom and wife.”
But while Jolie is obviously taking her health seriously, she is not suddenly planning to “give up her career,” as OK! says. First, it’s not news that Jolie may wind up slowing down her acting work in the coming years. She’s hinted at shifting her focus before, long before this most recent health scare, as her directing and humanitarian efforts have grown. And OK! is the same publication that once laughably reported Jolie was writing a $50 million tell-all book. The outlet doesn’t exactly have a great track record regarding the star’s career.
Worse than that, though, is the magazine’s history of sensationalizing Jolie’s family life and health. OK! has repeatedly run stories about non-existent health problems for the star, said she was pregnant when she wasn’t, claimed she’s starved herself, spread bogus rumors about the family’s Christmas plans and Jolie’s parenting decisions, and generally taken every opportunity to inject drama into Jolie’s private life. Using her latest health decisions as an excuse to declare her imminent retirement is just another example. A source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop it’s “not true,” and that no huge career decisions have been made.
