“Angelina Jolie loathes up-and-comer Jennifer Lawrence,” say sources for the National Enquirer, because “she believes ‘The Hunger Games’ star poached a plum role from her!”

A tab insider reveals, “Angelina desperately wanted the female lead in the movie ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ It was a prime role with great dialogue, and Angelina campaigned hard for it.”

So what happened?

The film’s director David O. Russell, who initially believed Lawrence was too young for the part, was blown away by her audition and gave her the part.

That part is true — and Lawrence is now earning critical raves for the movie.

But the Enquirer smells drama, and wants to make it seem like the role was Jolie’s, that Lawrence took it away from her, and that the actresses are now at war.

“Angelina was enraged!” says the tabloid’s source of Jolie’s reaction to Lawrence’s casting.

The magazine claims Lawrence’s participation threw Jolie “into a fury!”

“Angie was beside herself,” alleges the Enquirer insider. “She screeched, ‘What’s she got that I don’t have?’”

According to the tab’s source, “The simple answer is youth. Angie’s getting older and the big parts are going to rising young stars like Jennifer.”

This is ridiculous.

Jolie is not hurting for acting work, and is rumored to be involved in far more projects than she actually chooses.

Meanwhile, she’s just secured her second directorial gig, and has gone on the record as saying she may walk away from acting, period, in the not-too-distant future.

What she’s not doing is harboring a grudge against Lawrence and other young actresses — a tired, convenient narrative for a tabloid that would love to stoke a feud between two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, even if there’s nothing there.

A source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop the idea of Jolie-Lawrence ill will is “absurd.”
