Angelina Jolie: I’m Going to Give Up Acting When My Kids Become Teenagers

Is Hollywood going to soon be bereft of both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?

Last year, 48-year-old Pitt said he plans to retire from acting when he turns 50, and now Jolie is singing a similar tune.

The Maleficent star told England’s Channel 4 News, “I think I’m going to have to give up the acting as the kids hit the teenage years… [there will be] too much to manage at home.”

Jolie noted, “I have enjoyed being an actress. I am so grateful to the job and I have had great experiences and I have even been able to tell stories and be a part of stories that mattered and I have done things for fun.”

“But if it went away tomorrow I would be very happy to be home with the children. I wake up in the morning as a mom and I turn on the news like everybody else and I see what’s happening and I want to be part of the world in a positive way,” she added, referring to her charity work and position as a United Nations ambassador.

Jolie and Pitt’s two eldest children are 11-year-old Maddox and nine-year-old Pax, so the actress’ plan to retire from acting could take effect in the not-distant future.

However, actors have frequently changed their minds when it comes to actually stepping away.

This woman has given a home to three adopted children and three biological children. She and Pitt obviously love those children and each other. It would not surprise me at all if they spent these next years doing what is best for their family. Their tremendous amount of charity work speaks volumes about their character. IMO it is more likely that Hollywood will give up on them, before them actually giving up on Hollywood and the fame/money, to be stay at home parents…
I think this is just them putting it out there now, because as the roles dry up, and all the jokes come out… (which is happening, rather quickly, in news, magazines, late night talk shows… everyone is doing it and over several of their projects, not just one or two.) You’re right on target. Brangelina is a brand and quite frankly, the way they go on about each other and their “family” life indicates they’re more into themselves as a brand than the rest of us. I happen to know for a fact they (like many celebs who love fame for the sake of it) tip off photogs for photo opps when they’re out. Truth is, she and him are losing their looks and sex appeal as they age naturally, but they don’t seem to realize it the way they continue to promote their A-list status. Also, I’d like to know what Angelina has done for the world other than take photos with underprivileged children and steal a couple of them away from poverty for her own selfish whims. The amount they donate to charity that makes it into the press is about the equivalent of $100 out of the annual salary of us mere mortals. Better than nothing? Of course. Both Brad and Angelina clarified in the past that there was no set timeframe for retirement but they won’t always act. She just said if her career as an actress ended, she would be satisfied with being a mom and humanitarian. Most celebrities use nannies. Most working parents use baby-sitters.Their haters and trolls just are not going by reality whatsoever. They do not have five nannies for each child. They have a staff for different occasions like if they are in California, or England, or on-set, or etc. They don’t use them all at the same time. Their nannies function like baby-sitters and work only part time. Brad and Angelina are their primary caretakers. People will deny the fact that they are primarily seen with Brad and Angelina by spending most of their time with them.

These haters are resorting to delusions and contradictions. Brad and Angelina earned their A-list status and their careers have only improved in quality with age. Then again, the haters who are perverse enough to trash all of their charity work are also delusional enough to mock their great careers.

Their movies don’t always have to be box office hits. It is about the impact of their films and their movies have all held up to the standard whether it be box office success, critical acclaim, cinematic impact, or award nominations.

Then again, their haters will probably dismiss their success and accomplishments with whatever bizarre spin they can come with. It just shocks me how the people who harass and slander them don’t seem to function in REAL life at all. Brad and Angelina are at the top of their game. I am proud of their work and Brad only has matured as an actor with time showing his range and depth of characterizations. Angelina directed a profound film that promoted awareness and activism for that region.

I guess people will ignore the slew of award nominations and acclaim that The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, A Mighty Heart, Inglorious Basterds, The Changeling, Burn After Reading, Babel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Moneyball, Tree of Life, and etc received. I am not even mentioning the success and acclaim they had before 2005. Most of their films were successful and will have longevity in film legacy. I didn’t even mention Plan B and Brad’s involvement in production and bringing attention to more films.

The CCOB, Burn After Reading, Wanted, Salt, Ocean’s Thirteen, Beowulf, Mr. and Mrs. Smith all did well at the box office internationally.

They have seeked out edgy and provocative projects that challenge them and their work has been impressive and commendable. What the hell are their haters talking about? Once again, their trashing is based on such lies.

Killing Me Softly is a complex film about our society and is receiving good reviews. Brad gave an excellent performance. It is about quality.

This led him to convene a group of experts in New Orleans to brainstorm building green, affordable housing on a large scale to help those families most in need after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Thus environmental organization Global Green, a national environmental non-profit fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future by reconnecting humanity with the environment, are involved in the project.

“We’ve got to push to get these levees taken care of in the correct fashion,” Pitt told reporters at a news conference in the hurricane-ravaged working class neighborhood. Pitt has committed $5 million in donations.

In October 2008, the first six homes were completed. In March 2009, Pitt met with U.S. President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, promoting his concept of “green housing” as a national model, and discussed possibilities of federal funding.

In September 2009, Pitt received an award from the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit trade organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings are designed, built and operated, in recognition of the green housing concept used for the Make It Right foundation.

This steady commitment to aid humanitarian causes around the world has lead Pitt to show his heart through the giving of time and resources to countless causes. According to tax records, in 2006 alone, Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated more than $8 million to charity.

In November 2005, Pitt traveled to Pakistan with Jolie to see the impact of the Kashmir earthquake. The following year, they flew to Haiti, where they visited a school supported by The Yéle Haïti Foundation, a charity founded by Haitian-born hip hop musician Wyclef Jean, using music, sports and the media to reinforce projects that are making a difference in education, health, environment and community development. In May 2007, Pitt and Jolie donated to three relief organizations in Chad and Darfur affected by the crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region.

Along with George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Jerry Weintraub, Pitt is one of the founders of Not On Our Watch, an organization that tries to focus global attention and resources to stop and prevent genocide such as that in Darfur.

In June 2009, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, dedicated to eradicating extreme rural poverty, protecting natural resources and conserving wildlife, donated to a U.N. refugee agency to help Pakistanis displaced by fighting between troops and Taliban militants. In January 2010, the foundation donated to Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971, providing aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters, for emergency medical assistance to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Jolie first became personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises while filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia. She eventually turned to The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the agency mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, for more information on international trouble spots.

Since 2001, Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees and internally displaced persons in more than 20 countries, including Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Cambodia, Pakistan, Thailand, Ecuador, Kosovo, Kenya, Namibia, Sri Lanka, North Caucasus, Jordan, Egypt, New Delhi, Costa Rica, Chad, Syria, and Iraq, to name a few, and most recently visited earthquake victims in Haiti on her latest trip to help survivors of conflict and natural disaster.

Asked what she hoped to accomplish meeting with refugees and internally displaced persons in more than 20 countries, she stated, “Awareness of the plight of these people. I think they should be commended for what they have survived, not looked down upon.”

In 2001 Jolie was recognized and named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador at UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, to help educate the public not only about the plight of refugees, but also about the perseverance and courage they show in overcoming all odds to rebuild their lives.

In 2003, Jolie was the first recipient of the newly created Citizen of the World Award given out by the United Nations Correspondents Association to those who have made a significant contribution. It was initiated in 2003, in honor of Brazilian diplomat Sergio Vieira de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who was killed in the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Iraq. In 2005, Jolie was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award by the United Nations Association of the USA for her work with UNHCR and with refugees. That same year, Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni awarded Jolie Cambodian citizenship for her conservation work in the country.

Over time, Jolie has become more involved in promoting humanitarian causes on a political level. She has regularly attended World Refugee Day in Washington, D.C., dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world, and she was an invited speaker at the World Economic Forum, an annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland which brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world including health and the environment in 2005 and 2006. Jolie began lobbying humanitarian interests in the U.S. capital, where she met with members of Congress at least 20 times from 2003.

Jolie also co-chairs the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which helps fund education programs for children affected by conflict. Founded in 2006 at the Clinton Global Initiative, annual meetings have brought together more than 100 current and former heads of state, 14 Nobel Peace Prize winners, hundreds of leading global CEOs, major philanthropists and foundation heads, directors of the most effective non-governmental organizations, and prominent members of the media. In 2007, 19 organizations made a commitment worth $148 million to educate 350,000 of the children out-of-school in conflict areas and help improve the quality of schooling for nearly 700,000 additional children.

Jolie is on the board of advisors for the Yéle Haiti Foundation, and with Brad Pitt took time to help Wyclef Jean with his Clean Streets project. Jolie also arranged a deal with People Magazine allowing them to print the first picture showing her visibly pregnant in exchange for a $500,000 donation to the charity.

Angelina has been travelling to refugee camps around the world since filming Tomb Raider. During her missions she has visited places including Sudan’s war-torn Darfur, Sierra Leone, Cambodia and Tanzania. She also visited Afghan refugees in Pakistan and donated $1 million to help.

Jolie is known to cover all of her costs while on missions, and shares the working and living conditions as the UNHCR field staff.

Jolie published Notes from My Travels, a collection of journal entries that chronicle her early field missions (2001-2002) with proceeds benefitting UNHCR.

According to tax records, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated more than $8 million to charity in 2006 alone.

In January, 2008, Jolie and her brother, James Haven, marked the first anniversary of their mother’s death from ovarian cancer by making an undisclosed donation to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Joli is a wonderful mother. She has respect for her children’s choices even when she disagrees with them or wishes they were different. That’s what real parenting is, enabling the assertiveness of the child so it doesn’t turn into aggression. And Brad talks about them in such a wonderful way in interviews like z with her handful of dogshit on Oprah.

I haven’t listened to much at all. I mean the way she sits with them eating ice-cream, the fact that she lets her daughter wear her hair the way she wants, dress the way she wants, that she sometimes gets fed up and says, “Because I said so!” And admits it. Things like that, little things that indicate who she really is. The way she walks with them, holds them, just stuff like that. You will never see her putting a leash and harness on any of her children, to protect them of course as the excuse goes.

They’re not even filming as much as they used to so I doubt they’ll really retire from their acting career, however it’s more likely that they will take breaks between each movies (two years etc) if they’re not doing so now.
