Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce continues to be the biggest celebrity news. The longtime couple’s split is keeping the rumor mill churning, but the vast majority of the rumors about the Brangelina breakup are untrue. Gossip Cop can once again separate fact and fiction.

FICTION: Brad Pitt cheated on Angelina Jolie in Croatia, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: The webloid alleged Pitt slept with an unnamed woman, who looked “just like” Jolie, during a business trip only weeks before the separation. The so-called “Croatian cutie” was quoted as saying, “I cheated with him in Angelina’s bed.” Of course, that made no sense, since Pitt was a visitor to the country and stayed in a hotel. The site also had no proof that this paramour actually existed. It was no surprise then when a mutual friend assured Gossip Cop the cheating claim was “not true.”

FICTION: Selena Gomez’s problems are connected to Brad Pitt’s divorce, according to the National Enquirer.
FACT: As Gomez privately struggles with lupus, the supermarket tabloid claimed she’s “hiding out” due to Pitt’s drama with Jolie. The outlet ridiculously linked the couple’s split with Gomez and Pitt’s interaction at the Golden Globes back in January. But as Gossip Cop has reported, nothing inappropriate ever went down between the two. Just as that didn’t cause Pitt’s divorce, nothing about the breakup is affecting Gomez’s health. Gomez is laying low, but Brangelina certainly isn’t the reason why.

FICTION: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are battling over her engagement ring, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: The fabrication factory claimed to have an exclusive (cough) that said the estranged spouses both wanted to keep the $250,000 bauble. Pitt was said to want it for “symbolic purposes,” while it was alleged Jolie simply wanted all the jewelry she amassed during the marriage, setting the stage for a big fight. But Pitt has not asked for the ring back, and he isn’t going to. In fact, by law, it belongs to the recipient. But Gossip Cop doesn’t expect HollywoodLies to know such things.

FICTION: Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are planning a “secret reunion,” according to OK!.
FACT: The magazine designed a bait-and-switch cover, initially leading readers to believe the exes were caught reuniting in L.A. But the full story was about the two supposedly planning to “rendezvous,” just in hopes of starting a “real friendship.” It was all completely made up, though. Pitt’s rep told Gossip Cop the claims were “totally false,” while Aniston’s spokesperson said to us that they were a “complete fabrication.”

FICTION: Angelina Jolie cheated on Brad Pitt with a married billionaire, according to Star.
FACT: In a cover story, the tabloid alleged Jolie confessed to Pitt that she had “fallen in love with another man,” whom she had been seeing “on the sly” for the last six months. He was described as a “wealthy philanthropist,” but tellingly, never named by the publication, and it was also said this mystery man wouldn’t be divorcing his wife to be with Jolie. How convenient. But just like Pitt’s aforementioned “Croatian cutie,” it seems this “billionaire” was made up out of thin air. Not only was Gossip Cop told the article was “false,” but we again confirmed that Jolie and Pitt’s divorce was not caused by a third party.

FICTION: Brad Pitt is getting “revenge” on Angelina Jolie in court, according to In Touch.
FACT: The outlet insisted in a cover story that Pitt planned on having an “explosive face-to-face showdown” in court, “armed with a secret weapon: Angelina’s psychiatric records.” It was said the actor wanted to subpoena Jolie’s medical history to “prove that she has a mental disorder,” and that he would fight for sole custody of their six kids, unless the actress backed down. But as has always been the case, Pitt wants joint custody of the children. A reliable contact also told Gossip Cop that he’s “deliberately continued to stay positive about” Jolie in the wake of the split, and still has no intention of getting nasty.

FICTION: Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston are considering a “movie offer,” according to In Touch.
FACT: In one of the more ridiculous stories to emerge, the magazine claimed producers wanted the two actresses to “star in a film together.” One such producer claimed Jolie “laughed” when the project was brought up to her in the past, but suggested it might now be a real possibility. Well, moviegoers shouldn’t start saving up for tickets now… or ever. In addition to never considering such an offer before, Jolie and Aniston are absolutely not contemplating one now.

FICTION: Brad Pitt is getting divorce advice from Gwyneth Paltrow, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: The site, which has now gotten a number of stories wrong about the Brangelina breakup, added to that list by dragging in Pitt’s long-ago fiancée. This new tall tale claimed Paltrow reached out to her ex to offer advice, and she planned on “counseling” him on conscious uncoupling. And though Pitt supposedly rejected her input, it was said Paltrow still wanted to be an “unofficial mediator” for him and Jolie. Naturally, Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for the actress, who exclusively told us the claims about her involvement were “made up.”

Gossip Cop understands that Jolie and Pitt’s breakup will continue to be a hot topic for some time to come. But like with all celebrity news stories, there’s no need to abandon accuracy. With so much facts about the couple’s split out there, it’s just not necessary to resort to spreading fiction. Gossip Cop will stay focused on the real story, and we’ll also keep calling out the false rumors.
