Andy Samberg Mocks Justin Bieber In ‘Popstar’ Trailer – Watch Red Band Preview!
Andy Samberg’s comedy group The Lonely Island are starring in their first movie, a music mockumentary titled Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which focuses on the life and career of a Justin Bieber-esque singer. Watch the hilarious red band trailer below!
The film’s title is a play on Bieber’s 2011 concert documentary, Never Say Never, and the plot revolves around singer/rapper Conner4Real, one of the top musicians in the industry, who also happens to lack modesty and self-awareness. The parody of the modern music scene was produced by Judd Apatow, and co-written, co-directed and co-starring Samberg’s Lonely Island cohorts Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.
During the R-rated preview, Samberg’s character tells the camera, “My fans and me, we’re in love. The arena is our bedroom. And the stage is where we f***.” The pop star also explains, “Justin Bieber’s got his Beliebers, and I got my Connfidants.” The movie features numerous cameos from some of the top artists in the industry, including Carrie Underwood, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Pink, Seal, Simon Cowell and Adam Levine’s hologram, which performs alongside Conner in concert.
A ton of “Saturday Night Live” alumni also co-star in the film. Sarah Silverman plays Conner’s publicist, and Tim Meadows, Bill Hader and Will Forte portray various members of the musician’s entourage. As Conner puts it, “It takes a village to make me look dope.” Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which looks to be a hilarious satire of the music industry and spoof of celebrity culture, hits theaters on June 3.
