Cooper explained that he was shooting a story on the water for two hours and hadn’t realized the damage the sun was doing to his eyes.

He recalled, “I wake up in the middle of the night and it feels like my eyes are on fire, my eyeballs, and I think, ‘Oh, maybe I have sand in my eyes or something.’ I douse my eyes with water. Anyway, it turns out I have sunburned my eyeballs and I go blind. I went blind for 36 hours.”

The host showed a picture of himself in an eyepatch, joking, “That’s my new Match.com profile picture, by the way.”

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Seriously, it sounds scary and uncomfortable. Funny though how his misadventures and stories always end up being about him.

WOW! I never heard such a thing. My niece has light blue eyes, I need to tell her mother to be careful with her.

It’s just a blessing his sight was restored.

I went temporarily blind when I was in my senior year in high school. I developed an allergy and both of my retinas got infected. It took about 8 mos, of finallly finding the correct meds. (they tried several kinds of drops which just made it worse) to get my sight completely back. During that time, if I was in the light too much, I could barely see. All I could see was vague shadows by July of that year. At least when I graduated high school in June, I could still see some and enjoy it. My eyes are dark, btw. What I learned was to appreciate what you have because you might not have it later. My eye doctor/surgeon did a great job and I got my eyesight back, but it was touch and go for awhile and he wasn’t sure I would get it back. I’ve had several other eye infections about the same time of year since then, but nothing really bad and we know what meds. to get from the doctor to clear it up now. Wear you sunglasses–don’t take the chance. If your eyes start malfunctioning, go to the doctor. Don’t wait and if you have an infection in your eyes, don’t let anyone dialate them because it spreads the infection and irritates your retinas. We learned the hard way. Yes, I knew that you can sunburn your retinas. I’ve heard about people who have done that before. Wear those polarizing sun shades from now on, Anderson. The kind that wrap around your face so the sun can’t come in from the sides and hurt your eyes. I’m glad that yo are okay now. I’ve watched you for the last few days covering the news from Boston. Thanks for the good reporting. I’m so glad to see the emergency is now over.
