Amy Winehouse Was NOT in Process of Adopting 10-Year-Old Girl

“Amy Winehouse was adopting girl of 10,” reads the headline of an “exclusive” in The Mirror.

According to the British tab, Winehouse “had started the process of becoming a mum to 10-year-old Dannika Augustine,” who she met on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia two years ago.

Dannika, who lives in poverty with her single mom, even told The Mirror, “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me… She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

Dannika’s grandmother, Marjorie Lambert, who runs a beach bar in St. Lucia, is also quoted in the tab saying, “Amy used to beg me: ‘I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.’ She was prepared to move to St. Lucia to be her full-time mum… Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St. Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”

This is all a very touching and compelling story — so much so that places like TMZ was completely duped by it.

But a rep for Winehouse confirms exclusively to Gossip Cop, “There’s no truth to it.”

Maybe some media outlets should adopt better fact-checking skills.

    Providing this newstory is true , maybe Amy Winehouse’s heart was in the right place but certainly not her brain. Regardless of how it was effected by alcohol and other drugs. Simply being raised in poverty, even dire poverty is no justification for a child to be adopted. If that were the case then tens of millions of children livig below the US poverty line would go to adoptive parents here in the US. Unless these mothers and in many cases fathers abuse their children, their economic status or lack of it should not be justification for them losing their daughters and sons.

    There’s no way a country would allow a drug addict and alcoholic like Amy to adopt a child. I feel bad for Amy but she would never have been allowed to do this. Why would anyone believe a tabloid story anyways.

    GOSSIP COP- DO YOUR JOB!!
    I wish that Gossip Cop would provide more information when they are debunking these tabloid stories. As for this Amy Winehouse adoption story, the only debunking that Gossip Cop does is saying that the story “has no truth to it.” But obviously Amy is with some young girl in these pictures provided by Gossip Cop that she cares about. Some more clarification is in order; who is this girl and what is Amy’s relationship with her? If Amy wasn’t going to adopt her, then why did this girl and her family tell The Mirror that she was? There’s got to be some truth to this false story, and Gossip Cop should do their job and root out the facts of it- not just say after revealing the entire ‘false’ story’ that there’s just no truth to it. It’s confusing!

    im from st lucia, and amy was loved there, she roamed our streets freely as the people loved her….danika and her grand mom didnt make it up, it cud be possible as the 2 was always seen togther…..people jus need to accept the facts and the amy camp n the media need to stop clashing this out, besides the girl didnt ask for money or any of that sort smh!
