American Sniper Destroys Box Office Competition Yet Again
American Sniper continues to dominate the box office. The controversial but wildly successful war movie earned $64.4 million and the top spot, laying waste to the competition for the second straight weekend. It’s now approaching the $200 million mark overall after setting January and Martin Luther King Day Weekend records last week.
The Jennifer Lopez thriller The Boy Next Door came in a distant second place with $15 million. And Paddington nabbed third with $12.4 million.
The Wedding Ringer and Taken 3 with Liam Neeson secured fourth and fifth places with $11.6 million and $7.6 million, respectively
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch ($7.1 million), Strange Magic ($5.5 million), the historical drama Selma ($5.4 million), the mustachioed Johnny Depp-Gwyneth Paltrow romp Mortdecai ($4.1 million), and Into the Woods ($3.9 million).
Being buzzed about most is that the film Mordecai, despite a strong cast that includes Depp, Paltrow, Paul Bettany, and Ewan McGregor, has been a total flop. Did that shock you? And what did you see this weekend?
