“American Idol” Series Finale David Bowie Tribute Video: Watch Performance!
The “American Idol” series finale paid tribute to David Bowie on Thursday with an all-star performance from five of the FOX music competition’s winners. Check out the video below!
Season 7 winner David Cook, season 8 winner Kris Allen, season 9 winner Lee DeWyze, Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips and season 14 winner Nick Fradiani all took to the “Idol” stage one last time in honor of Bowie. Together they performed a medley of some of the late musician’s biggest hits. As Gossip Cop has reported, the music icon died in January from liver cancer.
So, why were these particular winners chosen for the performance? Well, for starters, they all fall under the infamous “Idol” category of “white guy with guitar.” Also known as “WGWG,” these contestants seemed to have a stronghold over the show’s fanbase during various seasons.
And now “Idol” finale producer Nigel Lythgoe saw fit to put the guys together for a group performance. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, “I promise you, if they went out on tour, and each did 20 minutes in their own right and 20 minutes together, this is a sell-out tour, they’re so good together. The ‘WGWG’ tour.”
Cook and Fradiani gave return performances on “Idol” earlier this season, as Gossip Cop reported, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Allen, DeWyze and Phillips on the show. Watch below!
