After unprecedented upheaval, “American Idol” is set to return to the airwaves in January — and there’s a new promo for the upcoming Season 12.

Ryan Seacrest and the judges — Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson — all appear in the clip, but the video is surprisingly focused on the anonymous singers whose shots at glory first made “Idol” the juggernaut it is.

The Carey-Minaj clash that’s recently made headlines does not figure into the promo, called “Make Dreams Come True.”
