Amber Rose Calls Shiloh Jolie-Pitt “John,” Praises Brad and Angelina For Raising “Trans” Child
Amber Rose has voiced her support for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s openminded parenting of eight-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, whom Rose calls “John.” On Tuesday, Rose posted a picture of Jolie-Pitt (see right), who recently wore a men’s style suit to the premiere of Jolie’s Unbroken.
She captioned it, “How gorgeous is John Jolie Pitt?! Born into the perfect family for him. #TransKids #LoveurKidsNoMatterWhat #Support.” Rose’s labeling of Jolie-Pitt as a “trans” child is drawing some notice, since neither of the 8-year-old’s parents have used the term before.
In interviews, Jolie and Pitt have acknowledged that Shiloh prefers to dress as a boy and likes to be called “John.” They have also, however, continued to use the “she” pronoun when describing her, and have not delved too deeply into the issue of Shiloh/John’s specific gender identity.
“She only wants to be called John,” Pitt told Oprah Winfrey back in 2008. “John or Peter. So it’s a Peter Pan thing. So, we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want —’ ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just kind of stuff that’s cute to parents, and it’s probably really obnoxious to other people.”
Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2010, Jolie observed, “Shiloh, we feel has Montenegro style. It’s how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. So it’s a suit with a tie and a jacket and slacks, or a tracksuit… She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”
For the most part, however, neither Jolie nor Pitt has said much in recent years about Shiloh’s gender preferences. When she wore the suit to the Unbroken event earlier this month, buzz again began to swirl around her, and Rose’s comment about “John” being a “trans” kid has brought additional attention to it. What do you think about Rose’s post?
