Amber Holcomb Gets Standing Ovation for Whitney Houston Cover on American Idol

VIDEO

(Daily Motion)

Amber Holcomb got a standing ovation from all four judges on the first live “American Idol” episode of the season.

The 18-year-old was among the 10 female finalists to perform, and absolutely nailed Whitney Houston’s “I Believe In You and Me.”

“Good lord. Amber, what a perfect song for you,” Keith Urban told her. “You had no shortage of confidence and rightly so.”

Nicki Minaj said Holcomb’s rendition was more than a $10 million performance, and added, “Your vocals are surpassing even this competition. Nothing that came before you is even on that level.”

Noted Randy Jackson, “Amber is definitely in it to win it right now… You take on one of the greatest ever and you work it out.”

And Mariah Carey said she “loved” Holcolmb’s take on the classic song, adding, “You’re 18 years old and you can sing your behind off.”

I have not heard more glowing reviews regarding a song like Amber Holcomb received from the judges. She definitely has a future in music and I’m excited to see how far she
goes. I love watching Idol, but there are many conflicts that make it nearly impossible for me to watch Idol live; working late at my DISH office is one of them. I like to get as many shows in as possible so I use my DISH Hopper DVR because I can skip commercials and save enough time to watch an extra show. That way I get more enjoyment out of my time I have to relax.

I miss Whitney; I had to stop to listen to Amber because I thought it was Whitney singing. Amber has my vote; and I would go to see her in concert.

The American Idol Final Four woman for me are one name headliners: (1) Amber, (2) Angie, (3) Candice, and (4) Kree. I do not know who the 5th woman who will join them; but, these four woman are awesome! They can go into the studio and release a CD right now. I will buy it; and I will go see them in concert. Amber has our votes.

What a thrill it would be if Mariah performed a duet with Amber on American Idol. Mariah can teach Amber and the other contestants so much about the music business. Mariah is a darling; she is an awesome professional.

Additionally, I want to see Ms. Kim Burrell coaching and teaching Amber; Kim Burrell is able to challenge these raw, inexperienced artists to reach their potential. Kim Burrell has been “on point” with her critique of these a young, inexperienced rising stars on Sunday Best. Amber is a rising star.

A Moment Like This…. is the only song we remember from the American Idol (AI) contestant’s performances last night. Yes, a majority of the AI contestants are really good. However, the two contestants who are displaying unique, raw, pure musical talents are Amber and Burnell. Will they be the last two VOICES competing? Only Americans who are voting will decide their fate on AI. Whether they win or not on AI, Amber and Burnell’s VOICES are missing in the music industry and will take them far.

Mariah is a classy DIVA. Nicki has her fans. Amber, please do not wear any PINK lipstick. Own who you are, a beautiful, dark complexion, African American girl. PINK lipstick, NO!
