Amber Heard Drops Lawsuit Against Doug Stanhope
As Gossip Cop reported, following Heard and Depp’s split in late May, she accused him of being verbally and physically abusive throughout their 15-month marriage. In response to the allegations, Stanhope wrote a guest column for The Wrap in which he not only defended the actor, but also accused Heard of blackmail. In addition, Stanhope claimed it was Depp who was abused by Heard’s supposedly manipulative behavior.
Heard’s lawyer promptly called the blackmail claim “false,” and then a few days later, she sued Stanhope for defamation. In legal papers, the star insisted she had suffered “tremendous harm” from the allegations. But now three months later, she is no longer pursuing the case.
Heard filed to have the lawsuit dismissed, and her team says it’s just a matter of her choosing to “move on” with her life. Gossip Cop, however, hears that dropping the litigation was part of the settlement deal she reached with Depp last month. As we previously reported, the agreement also called for Heard to receive $7 million, which she intended to donate to charity.
Now the exes are warring again since Depp directly donated the money himself, which Heard’s camp says he only did for a tax write-off. That new dispute is ongoing.
