Amanda Knox Found GUILTY of Murder
Amanda Knox has been found guilty of murder by an Italian court.
The verdict by two judges and six jurors was announced on Thursday after hours of deliberation at the Florence courthouse.
She was sentenced to 28 years in prison, while her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito received a 25-year sentence.
Knox, currently on American soil in her hometown of Seattle, was not present for the latest verdict in a legal saga stretching back to 2007.
It was in that year that Knox’s roommate Meredith Kercher was raped and killed.
Italian authorities convicted Knox and Sollecito of the murder, and Knox spent four years in prison before being acquitted and released in a dramatic 2011 reversal.
After Knox returned to the United States as a free woman, Italy’s Supreme Court ruled that the case could be retried, ultimately leading to Wednesday’s verdict.
It’s unlikely the United States will extradite Knox to Italy.
