Alice Eve slammed Bruce Jenner in an Instagram post, saying the former athlete is “playing at being a woman.” In a now-deleted message, the Star Trek Into Darkness actress wrote, “Nope. If you were a woman no one would have heard of you because women can’t compete in the decathlon. You wouldn’t be a hero. You would be a frustrated athlete who wasn’t given a chance.” Eve continued, “Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a ‘woman’ while retaining the benefits of a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman.”

While Eve is right that women don’t have an Olympic decathlon, in which Jenner won a gold medal in 1976, many people were upset with her tone and stance, and felt the actress’ Instagram post was “transphobic.” Eve later deleted that message, and added a new post on Monday in which she wrote: “I am a supporter of anyone who wishes to explore their gender identity. Sometimes language doesn’t express the spectrum of identity sufficiently as in this case. I am also a believer in equal rights for all… Whatever your race, color or creed.”

As Gossip Cop reported, Jenner noted during his Friday night interview with Diane Sawyer that his “brain is much more female, than it is male,” and he believes he has the “soul of a woman.” What do you think of Alice Eve’s (since deleted) comments about Bruce Jenner?

UPDATE: In a statement released later Tuesday, Eve says, “I deeply apologize for offending anyone. I support equal rights and equal dignity for all. I have deep compassion and support for Bruce Jenner. My intention was not to offend. My intention was simply to express that, with the overdue and welcome acceptance of us all living on a gender spectrum, we must encourage equality for all.”
