Alex Rodriguez Gets 3,000 Hit With Home Run — WATCH VIDEO!
Alex Rodriguez got his 3,000 hit with a home run on Friday, just like Derek Jeter did four years ago. Watch below!
Rodriguez came up to bat in the bottom of the first inning at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York as the Yankees faced the Detroit Tigers. All eyes were on the designated hitter after he scored hits 2,998 and 2,999 on Thursday night. Sure enough, with this first at bat, Rodriguez got the milestone hit.
And it wasn’t any old bloop. Rodriguez hit a home run. With no one else on base, it gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The accomplishment came nearly four years after Jeter reached 3,000 hits. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, he, too, did it with a home run. On July 9, 2011, Jeter became the 28th player in Major League Baseball and the first in Yankee history to get to number 3,000.
Of course, unlike Jeter’s achievement, Rodriguez’s comes with an asterisk. The former third baseman spent all of last season suspended for his use of steroids, the second time he broke such a ban. The illicit substances have cast a pallor over Rodriguez’s exceptional career, as there’s now to know now what he accomplished through genuine talent, and what he managed through his illegal boosts.
While that may make some wonder if all of Rodriguez’s 3,000 hits should count, he will nevertheless go in the record books. Similarly, the athlete scored his 661st home run earlier this season, overtaking Willie Mays on baseball’s all-time list. Fair? That will be debated for years to come. Check out video of Rodriguez’s 3,000th hit below, and tell us what you think.
