Gossip Cop is a little confused by Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman’s message, “make my day,” to Alec Baldwin, regarding a possible bid by the “30 Rock” star to run against him in 2012. We’re bewildered because the story is more than a bit old – and not accurate.

Lieberman made the comment on CNN’s “State of the Union.” But what confounds us is why this is even an issue. In July’s Playboy – yes, Gossip Cop reads the articles – Baldwin said, “I have sometimes thought I could move to New Jersey or Connecticut and run. I’d love to run again Joe Lieberman,” said Baldwin, a diehard Democrat, of the Democrat-turned-Independent senator. Baldwin added, “But it’s all fantasy. I’m a carry-me-out-in-a-box New Yorker.”

Today Baldwin’s rep confirmed what Gossip Cop already knew. He called the alleged Baldwin bid “old” and “untrue,” and reiterated, the actor is “happily living in New York.”
