There’s a lot of speculation today that “30 Rock” star and 2010 Oscars co-host Alec Baldwin plans to bolt from television – and acting entirely.

“I don’t have any interest in acting anymore,” Baldwin says in the December issue of Men’s Journal. Expressing dissatisfaction with his career, the actor is quoted as saying, “Movies are a part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.” He adds that it’s “pretty much it” for him after “30 Rock.”

Wow, so is Baldwin leaving behind his career in acting?

Not so fast.

Let Gossip Cop look at all the facts.

Don’t forget: this isn’t the first time Baldwin’s hinted at exiting the biz. Last summer he told Playboy he’d be “done” with his career in 2012 and planned to retire at that year’s “30 Rock” wrap party.

Now that the Men’s Journal cover story has revived those rumors, how likely is it really that Baldwin will quit acting?

His rep tells Gossip Cop, “Check back in 2012.” And a friend confides that Baldwin is “not leaving before the show is over.” So if “30 Rock” goes beyond 2012, expect Baldwin to be right there with it.

As for persistent rumors Baldwin intends to jump into politics, the friend says it’s an idea he’s entertained, but explains that 2012 might be too soon for Baldwin to run for public office.
