Busting bad dish!

Did Al Roker Call Out Matt Lauer For Having Ann Curry Fired From Today? (VIDEO)

VIDEO

(NBC)

The atmosphere on the “Today” show got a bit awkward this morning, when Al Roker seemed to call out Matt Lauer for allegedly having Ann Curry fired as his co-host.

Roker, Lauer and Savannah Guthrie (Curry’s replacement) were interviewing members of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Rowing team, who revealed their tradition of throwing a teammate into the water after winning a race.

Lauer joked, “The tradition here in New York is you throw her in the Hudson River.”

Then, well after Lauer had already congratulated and thanked the ladies for their appearance, Roker broke in and said, “Which is different than our tradition… which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that’s another story.”

Guthrie put her hand on Roker’s shoulder, and seemingly chided, “Mr. Roker.”

NBC has since cut the clip from the video on their website.

They should get rid of that crybaby Matt …and bring Ann back

  • D. Martin

I guess Al will be the next to go. Too bad…

  • Claire

You are right on target! Hearing it I thought the very same thing. Akward!

  • Judy C Robin

Good for Al Roker, yep I would say he called Mat out. Thanks Al, it’s about time someone did it.

  • Guest

Well done Mr. Roker, well done! It was about time someone address this travesty!

  • Irish Girl

Wow. That sounds like Al has been harboring some simmering resentment over the last six weeks. Well, good for him. The way Ann was treated was shameful, and whether you believed she was right for the job or not, nobody deserved what she had to endure. It was a public flogging of a person who showed TODAY and NBC nothing but professionalism and loyalty. Any decent human being should have been appalled by what happened. Any woman should have been outraged.

    I’m glad he said something.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, but it’s not like he doesn’t have another job lol
But I am glad someone said something, good job to Al Roker.

  • Claire

Very, very well put. Public flogging for sure. I’m still not sure where Matt Lauer is hiding all of NBC’s skeltons?! He seems to have a huge hand in the decision-making process at Today & those executives seem to blindly stand behind him. Whether or not Al meant it is irrelevant; he did successfully shine the light on this unnecessary circus!!

  • Satine

I like Al, I went there one time and he came and greeted all the people and shook their hands. He is very friendly. I stopped watching Today for awhile. I liked Ann Curry, I am not a fan of Lauer.

  • Persianpickle

BRAVO Al,now watch your back.I remember afew years ago Matt tried to retire Willard.

Well done, Al. Finally, someone there has had the courage to say it.

I have watched several Today segments in the recent past on “Bullying”. If someone wants to work up the current story line at the Today Show, you would probably have a ratings winner. Be sure to let us know when you will run it. Rarely does the audience see something so blatant and then watch key individuals try to justify it. There is clearly a problem at the Today Show and it was not Ann Curry. We all saw what was behind the false tears, Matt.

Was it Lauer specifically or NBC in general that he meant? I would assume the latter, but in any case, he’d better watch his own back.

  • Garciame

I agree whole heartly, I thought Ann brought elegance and professalisim to the show. I always liked Mat until the recent firing of Ann. I make it a point not to watch it. I also watched the Olympics on other channels and not when he was on.

I’m sure Ann is going to be fine and you know “what goes around, comes around” firm believer of that one!!!!!!

  • SuzyCreamCheese

Congratulations Al! You had the cojones to speak up. You seem to be the only one there with a backbone!!! NBC SUCKS for the way they treat their employees.

  • Jennifer

Hrmmm… that wasn’t my take at all… Not that Lauer doesn’t deserve it, but what I sensed was that it was directed at the show producers and the network, not anyone standing there at that moment.

i alway watch now moved over to cbs

  • Claire

Matt Lauer gets exactly what he craves from NBC: Power! He gets to decide his own salary, who he has chemistry with, etc. I question why on earth is he given so much of it?! Either he saved some high-ranking executive his job, his life or possibly someones best-kept secret!!!

Al thanks for having the guts too indirectly point the finger. ANN was a joy to watch every morning
with her genuine and professional demeaner. I will not watch The Today Show. Matt is not nor
will he ever be a person I want too see on TV first thing in the morning.

  • Purecountry1963

i no longer watch this program because of lauer . he is a selfish man who is always thinking of himself but hey he fits in with the rest of the liberals. guess that’s all he cares about. ann curry was a breath of fresh air . matt needs to hang around some good people for a change maybe they’d rub off on him. oh wait he lets most of them go.guess it’s a no win situation.

    Way to go AL!

  • Matte3105

Roker’s comment was appropriate. Lauer should be the one in the Hudson and Curry reintated because that women was personal and gave her all to that show

  • dpt

Congratulations to Al Roker. It’s about time some one spoke up about the travesty dealt Ann Curry. Shame on NBC execs for allowing a two-faced, narcissus Matt Lauer to run the Today Show. With Matt running the show why not get rid of the execs at NBC and put Matt in charge of everything including cleaning toilets. Savannah Guthrie needs to go too. She adds absolutely nothing to the show and does not compare to Ann Curry, Meredith Veiriera, etc. She is boring. Good Morning America here I come.

Stopped watching The Today Show right after Ann was fired. Had been a loyal viewer for decades but this literally made me sick. Now I watch HLN every morning on cable and actually get the news! Imagine that…
