UPDATE: Adam Lambert Says Queen Quotes “Taken Out Of Context”

Truth rating: 10

Adam Lambert said on Twitter Friday night that his recent comments on performing with Queen as their new frontman have been taken out of context.

According to an interview with the Daily Star, Lambert said he would go on tour as the band’s new lead singer, the throne once held by rock icon Freddie Mercury.

He supposedly told the paper, “The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f*cking great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.”

Lambert reportedly added, “There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible.”

But the “American Idol” runner-up tweeted Friday night, “Oooh them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context…. I haven’t confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMA’S. :)”

Lambert, who first met the band’s members Brian May and Roger Taylor when they performed “We Are the Champions” during his “Idol” finals in 2009, also performed with them at the MTV EMAs last November.

The singer added, “That being said, I’m truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions mr journalist!! :)”

Mercury passed away in 1991 due to bronchopneumonia resulting from AIDS.

Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for Lambert for comment, but has not heard back.

Omg, that’s awesome! I knew they said they would invite him up during concerts but to be with them all the time, that’s great. Their performance with him in November was epic.

What about all the people who just won the tribute tour auditions? There were people there that sing SO much better than Adam Lambert…seriously!

  • Natasha

I thibk Adam has amazing range and an inxredible voice!
I definitely love the idea of him singing with Queen!
    He is so talented!

  • guesty mcguest

Is he really becoming the lead singer of Queen or is it going to be what happened when Paul Rodgers joined them for an album, and called it Queen + Paul Rodgers? I suspect the latter

  • French Flies

    Anything is better than Paul.

I can picture this working this, I think that with Adam lamberts style that this could work well. He has an amazing vocal range and I think he is flamboyant enough to pull it off. Its great that this will revamp some old songs and bring them to the forefront so that youth can appreciate them. Music these days is nothing like how it used to be, younger people are use to hearing autotone and so much digital altering that music just doesn’t have the same feel as it use to. I think this could be a good thing, as long as Adam doesn’t try and take over and he sticks to the same vibe that Queen has always had.

Unexpected! But Lambert has great pipes, so it should work out well. =o)

  • Mcwrixon

NOT one other person could pull this off but him – Queen we’re my high school heros love love love, Adam will do Freddie justice more then anyone possible could…

  • Hmm

What like the super successful Rockster INXS deal where they found their new infamous singer? Oh wait….

  • Red

Adam never said this, British tabloid started this.

oh yeah…he’s always taken out of context or misunderstood in some way ALL THE TIME! enough already…

I love love love love love love love that video. Its pretty awesome. :D

Hmmmm…seems to me that Adam need some PR and got a lot by announcing this. He always “seems” to be taken out of context.

Notice all the Lambert fanatics that change the subject to how great Adam is, not whether he was misquoted or? SAD…this guys wants to be a star so badly!

  • smartchick

I am so sorry Mr. Lambert has to live through the crap that goes with being misquoted. He is an amazing singer and would certainly do justice to the music of Queen. Queen is my all-time favourite group and Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable. But Mr Lambert could do a credible job and keep the music playing!

  • JJ

Name five. Adam Lambert has probably the best range I’ve ever heard, and has the voice that would fit with Queen.

  • Rachel Williams

i understand Adam Lambert is a great singer and all, but I think there’s just a line that him becoming the new frontman would cross…it just seems hard to replace Freddie. And you know there will be lots of comparisons.
