Adam Carolla Tears Into Occupy Wall Street and Its “Self-Entitled Monsters” (AUDIO)

AUDIO

(MRC)

Adam Carolla is no fan of Occupy Wall Street.

In a nearly 10-minute profanity-laced tirade, the comedian and podcast host tears into Occupy Wall Street and its participants, whom he calls “f***ing a**holes” and “f***ing self-entitled monsters.”

Carolla feels we’re now living in a generation in which “everyone gives everyone a participation trophy, and then everyone feels good about themselves, but it’s not based on anything.”

Check out Carolla’s rant below, and tell us if you agree or not with what he says.

I thought a Corolla was an old Toyota. Anyhow, this dude is a has-been-who-never-was, who keeps trying to say somethng controversial for some attention to his under water “career”. Maybe, like the pathetic Dennis Miller, Fox “News” will hand Corolla some crumbs and let him do a commentary on Bill O’Reilley’s propaganda program.

    Good job Adam.

One may not like Tea Party, but at least they never left 30 tons of trash behind (which had to be cleaned by those in 99% they are allegedly defending)! They never had to set up a “Safe haven tent” for sexual abuse problems!

You are right Corolla is an old Toyota, Carolla (seriously the spelling of the name is in the headline retard) is someone who started with next to nothing and made it to a level of mediocrity that you will forever aspire to achieve because he knew nobody was going to hand it to him and you believe that you have a constitutional right to whatever you want without lifting your lazy ass off the couch, ass douche.

  • knockyoudown

    you are intellectually bankrupt dude.

I’d like to hear even 1% of the 99%’ers try to refute Carolla’s core point here. Try to make the argument that we are not in fact surrounded by an ever-increasing mass of entitlement-minded individuals who spend vastly more time complaining about what they don’t have, (but somehow deserve), in spite of their utter lack of effort or focus on a gainful career. And isn’t it so true that this has all really come about in full force roughly within the generation that our public education systems were first fully primed to avoid real measures of performance for kids, all in the name of sparing hurt feelings and preserving self-esteem, which does not come from plastic trophies or blue ribbons, but from the awareness that one’s own efforts can create a ‘win’. What we’ve done here is created an entire underclass of true losers- no success, no desire, no hope, and as programmed- NO EFFORT. Pitching a tent in a city park with a bag of weed doesn’t count for effort ass douches.

Spoken like a true Republican defending his over abundant bankroll from those they are supposed to protect. Why? Because they never truly earned squat. There isnt even a flake of dirt under those fingernails. Actually Get dirty making some jerk his millions then talk about who puts forth the most effort. The wealthy asshats or the middle class that actually make this thing go-round.

Its always the wealthy or Republicans saying “everyone thinks they are entitled to something that they havent earned”. Truthfully, dont use your money to get something done actually use your back and your hands. Then your actually working. Big mouth attention hogs that must have received the Gold plated drip cups along with the Knee pad/Chin strap econo set shouldnt have their opinions seriously contemplated….they should be looked at for what they are…entertainment.

While I won’t deny that some, not all, of the people involved in OWS might have feelings of entitlement… Carolla couldn’t be more wrong about several things in this rant. His argument was undermined as soon as he makes the claim that envy is something new, in this country no less. The American Dream is rooted in envy … why else would people want to “move on up.” Secondly, he makes a lot of assumptions about a masses of people from so many different backgrounds, proving his ignorance about all of the factors that have stepped on the middle and working classes. There is a problem when the cost of living goes up every single year and yet many people go without raises. I work for an institution paid for by the state, and we haven’t had a raise in 6 years despite an increased workload. Basically, Carolla is painting OWS with too broad, too harsh a stroke. It’s too big make such baseless assumptions. It’s too big to say they’re all unemployed. I will say that OWS has derailed their initial intention and alienated quite a few people within (who have since backed away from direct and/or indirect involvement). Student loans suck, yes. I receive those bills in the mail all the time. But it’s massively idiotic to sign a contract for financial aid and then protest or deny payment for those bills. You’re accountable for the agreements in which you enter. Someone has to pay, and you’re only hurting the 99% if refuse to be responsible for not reading the fine print. You’re only hurting yourselves and the 99% by focusing too much on the right to pitch tents in spaces meant to be enjoyed and utilized for everyone, and not engaging and addressing your government and elected officials in the way they are meant to. Visually, a direct protest is great for publicity, garnering that initial attention… if you can articulate a concise argument and propose a workable solution… a step in the right direction, but the real work is not as fun and easy as sunbathing, singing, and speechifying in a park. The American government will not suddenly change how it operates just because it sees that people are gathering and holding signs. As much as it may be tiring, all of the policies and changes that occurred in the past had a lot of grunt work and grassroots action behind the monumental marches and protests. People in positions of power aren’t going to make it happen for you just because you can scream loud. Even though I decided to not immerse myself in the OWS, I can’t dismiss that they (and sigh… even the Tea Party) are coming from a very real concern that both groups seem to be unable to articulate and demonstrate in a way that’s useful and not lost in a sea of rabble rousing. It does make me hopeful for what may come after this… maybe out of this movement, the next minds and leaders will emerge.

As for Carolla, his rant only made him sound foolish and angry to my ears. He doesn’t sound any better than the very people he rails against.

  • Trlkly

Oh, wow. Part of the 1% is trying to discredit OWS. How amazing.

Seriously–this guy makes a living being an asshole. So while other 1%ers who hate OWS are at least likely to clam up to avoid bad publicity, this guy thrives on it.

Have you seen how much of an asshole he was on Kevin Pollack’s chat show? Dude was invited to find out about his personal life, and couldn’t stop making jokes at the host’s expense. I knew from then on why the former Man Show host was unable to find a job.

Nor has there been rampant arrests at tea parties — nor any violence, vandalism, rape, child pimping, public masturbation, riots, public sex, illegal drug use, terrorizing of children trying to go to school, and myriad other crimes as has been documented at most of the OWS demonstrations. As far as Jeff Franks saying they “didn’t have time to clean up” because they were evicted, they had been given a deadline long before the actual eviction on Wednesday. And c’mon… it was THIRTY TONS of garbage, urine-filled bottles, decaying food, and other serious health-risk filth left behind at Occupy L.A. I’m surprised that no one was bitten by rats or other vermin, since it was a perfect haven for them. That disgusting amount of garbage took a long, long time to accumulate at the L.A. tent city, and for the OWS squatters to choose to live amongst for weeks on end. No one lifted a finger to clean up after themselves. Pathetic. Indicative of the “self-entitlement monster” described by Carolla.

Young people today feel entitled to immediate gratification. What happened to hard work and saving for the things you want in life? Over the years I’ve seen people half my age with possessions that took me years to acquire. But then again, I’ve never put twice my annual income on a credit card either. Obviously HARD WORK and SELF CONTROL are words that their parents never taught them. MAJOR FAIL on their parents. Hats off to Adam for his honesty.

  • Hhcruick

You missed his point entirely about envy……he clarified that its how these child/adults respond to their envy and shame at being a failure that is different today then in the past.

…..most people in times gone by would look at themselves in the mirror, as Adam pointed out, and say what’s wrong with me….what am I doing wrong….and then try to fix it. He is saying that now the reaction to envy by the entitlement generation, that has been trained to think they get the trophy and all the goodies just for showing up, is to want to tear the object of their envy down and take it away.

The emotional irrationality of the OWS movement reminds me of the Watts and Wilmington riots in the 60′s when it seemed logical to the mob to burn down their own neighborhood businesses and homes…….who did that hurt?

In contrast the Tea Party is instituting change the way it was intended…..by voting out those that are the source of the problem and replacing them with representatives that will stop making policies that create a population of strung out entitlement junkies. OWS doesn’t want to do the work of democracy they just want to bring it down…….just like the spoiled, lazy, filthy, whining losers that they are.

As far as your job goes and not getting a raise in 6 years…….you work for the government…….the government is broke and doesn’t have the money to pay for all of its programs……in the private sector layoffs would be in order……. so quit whining and sit your ass back on the bench or find a better job.

  • bigscreenkid

I didn’t realize that Adam Carolla could look into the hearts and minds of people while they’re looking in the mirror in the past and present. Can he see the future, too? Forget being wrong, Adam Carolla is clearly insane.

I’ve talked to actual people involved in OWS, and yes, there are extremists who’d like to throw the baby out with the bath water. Just like there are nutjobs that you’re ignoring the Tea Party, who I’ve also talked to FYI. But there also people who actually like democracy and just want to see it work better for more people. I don’t buy the media hype about either group.

As for my job goes, since when has talking openly and honestly something become whining in this country? I love my job… it fulfills me in other ways, and no one is demanding an extravagant pay increase. The higher-ups have had the opportunity to provide raises and haven’t done so… choosing instead to give themselves raises. That’s what happened in my experience, I’m not claiming that my experience with a state-funded job is what’s happened unilaterally. It’s just one example, and we’ve had our share layoffs and “forced retirements” as well. So please don’t act more informed about my life and work than I am.

  • bigscreenkid

Let me clarify though… I never missed his point, and he’s still incorrect. There are many “child/adults” as you call them within and outside of OWS that hold multiple dead-end jobs and work incredibly hard, save every penny, continue to apply for higher paying jobs in their fields, etc. There are many people in the past who didn’t self-reflect and chose self-destruction instead as well. Claiming feelings of envy motivate them is as dismissive, vitriolic, and a gross generalization that’s akin to simply rolling your eyes at the Tea Party and saying they’re a bunch of nutjobs. Note that I didn’t say that some of the OWS don’t want too much or have insane expectations and misplaced anger… there are many more who are rational and realistic, but they don’t make for best fodder when the cameras are rolling. One of my friends who is incredibly conservative and disagrees with OWS heard one of the people involved in my region speak, and she was shocked by how articulate, informed, and reasonable the girl sounded. There are people like that girl within this movement… and many of them have left because they don’t agree completely with the direction or lack of direction, as it may be. I’m sure you disagree, but those people make me hope that some good may come out of a messy situation because prior to this I was concerned that people my age and younger were getting too apathetic to become involved in their government.

  • http://twitter.com/FamousZee MissZee

not every young person out there feels they need entitlement to everything…there are young Americans between the ages of 18-21 (those are mostly the ones who ARE protesting) that work 2-3 jobs AND are full time college students…but yet, college students together can’t really get loans anymore…everything is much more strict then it was 5-10 years ago…income inequality is HUGE…such a big gap between the top 1% and the rest of us…

  • bigscreenkid

Exactly. Carolla’s comments and the people who agree wholeheartedly with him are too much of a gross generalization of a group of people he probably has had zero first hand interaction with to even be 50% true.

  • Mad_poet_i

The guy tells it like it is and the only thing close to a rebuttal you can offer is an ad hominem fallacy.

  • http://www.dregstudios.com Brandt Hardin

Considering this guy runs his mouth for a living, I think he’s fairly out of touch with the issues which Occupy has raised a flag for. The Occupy Movement is NECESSARY for our citizens to expose the corruption which Big Business has infected our Government with. Every single person occupying the streets and protesting Corporations is a hero and a patriot. I was compelled to lend a hand and create some new posters for the movement which you can download for free on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/11/propaganda-for-occupy-movement.html

  • evan_noname

He also forgets that it isn’t only mellennials at the occupy activities. Just this one fact renders his entire rant irrelevant. If you watch the videos, and not just the ones you are fed by the media, but at the live feeds, you will see that there is a good mix of all generations present (including families). Do we remember the 86 year old lady that was pepper sprayed? Just the usual invalid criticism over and over again: they are too lazy to get a job, they are all students who are upset that daddy won’t pay for the schooling , they are all homeless people, they don’t even know what they want, they pee in a bottle. (I have no problem with someone peeing in a bottle if they are part of something that makes the word a more equitable place.) Keep repeating these things, that way people that don’t see that the entire system is flawed can put their feet up and watch fox news and keep making money thinking they are solving poverty by paying their taxes. Don’t worry people, we won’t judge you. In fact, we will be here to greet you when you wake up from your slumber. After all, we are compassionate people.

  • AssDouche Remover

You’re right Evan, he left a few groups out. Other than the hapless young ingrates, there are quite a few agitators from the generation that came up with all the crap those youngsters have been fed for 25 years. After all, the young group don’t have the skill set to plan an even worse education system than the one they were given, and thanks goes to that very system. And ‘part of something that makes the world a more equitable place’ ? Pray tell you explain to us all how any of this is leading to equity? Name one thing that helps those struggling financially that the OWS movement has accomplished to date. Tick-tock!

  • evan_noname

Patience my friend…it is important to remember this is a movement, not a protest. All either of us can do at this point is speculate if there has been any decisions influenced by the OWS movement. The postponement of the keystone decision? The recent involvement of the republican spindoctor Frank Lutz, and has actually quoted sentiment that he is scared of the movement? The fact that Republicans have now backtracked on their opposition to an extension of the middle-class payroll tax cuts? Who knows, any of us can present arguments for either side. Regardless, a lot of supporters of the Occupy movement are here for the change that takes years to make. And in the end, my post was only targeting the factual errors in this rant, and the comments, that there is quite a good representation of all generations in the movement. I am not here to debate you, or anyone’s “opinion” of anyone’s character (re: your profiling them as agitators). Please, present your opinions! This only enriches the dialogue….just make sure we are getting our facts straight. Peace.

Typical of so many liberal ass douche’s (Woody whatever) – when they cannot refute the claims or the specific’s of an argument they resort to juvenile pedantic name calling and ad hominem attacks. Stick to the points and don’t attack a persons character or their physical features. What are the specific points made in his rant that you argue with? don’t tell us that you hate him, or that you think he’s “mean”, or that he’s an “asshole” – fucking grow up. Counter his points with specificity like a rational human being – forget the personal attacks and quit acting like a 14 yo girl on a school yard.

  • Jennifer

Never heard of this guy. Apparently, he has a show or something and probably makes a few bucks for himself on the fringes. Who cares?

What I find fascinating is the numbers of people (who very likely have no pot to pee in or two nickles to rub together themselves) come out to defend people and ideologies that are in diametrical opposition to their own personal interests. If it were up to people like this guy, you wouldn’t even be offered minimum wage, have weekends off, paid vacations or any of the basic ammenities. This guy is NOT going to come help you out if you lose your job, your health benefits, your house, etc. What WILL happen is, if HE suddenly finds himself in a tough spot, he’ll be at the front of an OWC or OLA line, screaming how he’s been F’d over. Never fails. Self-serving gits are all the same.

“I didn’t realize that Adam Carolla could look into the hearts and minds of people while they’re looking in the mirror in the past and present. Can he see the future, too? Forget being wrong, Adam Carolla is clearly insane.”

I find it interesting you’d say this considering that many of those defending your side of this argument make wild assuptions about the hearts and minds of the wealthy. Here are just a few common generalizations: They are selfish. They won’t help anyone unless there is something in it for themselves. They got wealthy by exploiting others. They don’t pay their fair share.

LOVE that last one. And if you believe it, don’t talk to me about Adam Carolla being insane — YOU are living in denial of reality.
