Abby Wambach Arrested For DUI In Portland – See Soccer Star’s Mugshot
Abby Wambach was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly driving drunk. Wambach, who was a member of U.S. National Team that won the 2015 Women’s World Cup, was picked up by police in downtown Portland, Oregon after her Range Rover ran a red light, Gossip Cop has confirmed. She was charged with a misdemeanor driving under the influence. See her mugshot at right.
Wambach, the U.S.’s all-time leading soccer scorer, failed a field sobriety test, leading to her arrest on the spot. She also failed a breathalyzer test in the police precinct. Wambach was then booked into Multnomah County Jail, but later released on her own recognizance. According to the police, Wambach “was polite and cooperative throughout the investigation.”
Prior to her arrest, Wambach only held records in soccer. In addition to winning the Women’s World Cup, she also won gold medals at the 2004 and 2012 Olympics. Before retiring from the U.S. national team last year, she was also the second U.S. women ever to be honored with FIFA’s world player of the year title. Last week, Wambach won a women’s golf ANA Inspiration Pro-Am event with Caitlyn Jenner at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. She celebrated by jumping in a pond.
Later on Sunday, Wambach posted an apology on Facebook. She wrote, “Last night I was arrested for DUII in Portland after dinner at a friend’s house.” Wambach expressed, “Those that know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated.” The former soccer star added, “I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example.”
