HBO Picks Up Aaron Sorkin Cable News Drama Series
2:10 pm, September 8th, 2011
HBO has picked up a new Aaron Sorkin series set in the world of cable news.
Jeff Daniels will star as the anchor of a major news program, with Sam Waterston as his boss, Emily Mortimer as his new executive producer, and a staff including Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Alison Pill and Thomas Sadoski.
“Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements,” reads the HBO announcement.
The show is not yet titled.
Sorkin is known for crafting TV shows like “The West Wing” and films such as The Social Network.
As Gossip Cop reported last January, for part of his background research Sorkin spent time on Keith Olbermann‘s old MSNBC set and shadowing other cable hosts.
