JP Gibson is five years old and has acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

On Monday, the Utah Jazz announced that they’d signed Gibson to a one-day contract, and then put him into the team’s scrimmage game.

It was fantastic.

Gibson dribbled through some defenders and (with a little bit of help) slammed home a basket to cheers from the crowd.

“JP loves most sports, but basketball is definitely his favorite,” said his mom Megan. “When he was just over a year old, he would sit with my husband Josh watching games. He started insisting on shooting hoops for an hour each night before bedtime when he was just 15 months old.”

It looks like the practice paid off.
