Guns N’ Roses Enters Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — Without Axl Rose

Axl Rose was booed in absentia as his band Guns N’ Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Saturday night.

The frontman controversially pulled out of the event just days before the ceremony, declining to be inducted and torpedoing the possibility of the first full, reunited Guns N’ Roses performance in nearly 20 years.

While some disappointed fans broke into sporadic chants of “F**k Axl!” and boos, the band’s induction (by Green Day) highlighted an epic parade of speeches and musical sets that stretched to nearly six hours.

Billie Joe Armstrong honored G N’R, calling their “Appetite for Destruction” the greatest debut album of all time and saying, “The thing that set them apart from everyone else was guts. They never lost their edge for one second.”

Chris Rock inducted Red Hot Chili Peppers, joking about first seeing them by accident while trying to see Grand Master Flash.

Chuck D and LL Cool J honored inductees Beastie Boys in a speech, with Kid Rock and the Roots performing a medley of the Beasties’ songs.

Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band inducted the Small Faces and Faces, while John Mellencamp did the honors for 1960s balladeer Donovan.

Bette Midler gave an emotional speech for the late inductee Laura Nyro, while Smokey Robinson honored a number of previously overlooked backing groups including his own Miracles, the Comets, the Blue Caps, the Famous Flames, the Midnighters and Buddy Holly’s Crickets.

Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill of ZZ Top inducted late guitarist Freddie King.

And as usual Axl keeps on ruining things, like he did at the concerts of the Guns and Roses. Oh Man! He has not changed at all. Still having an ego who is bigger than himself.

Axl Rose is a tool, surprise surprise. Side note: BEASTIE BOYS?!?! No thanks.

I think the R&R Hall is dredging the dregs by including these goofs. How many albums did they record? 3, 4?And what was their influence on music?

  • Anonymous

@Doctor Snake actually in 25 years Guns & Roses have released 5 Studio albums 3 live albums and a greatest hits disc. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has done stupider things for example refusing to induct Hall & Oates who have been around 40+ years and have sold roughly 80 million albums world wide

Sorry, but I do not agree with you. Many bands from then and now are influenced by the unique hard rock music of this band. As you should know they have had many number one songs like November Rain, and their albums were sold very well. Much better than other bands in the 80′s and 90′s.

If you think of that time, you think of Guns and Roses, Metallica (the old setting with Cliff Burton of course.), Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Def lappard (sp?), and some other bands.

The Beastie Boys were the first white hiphop band in the 80′s and 90′s that were actually really succesful. They really influenced the hiphop scene. Even parts of their songs were used as samples in house music. Much better than the awefully Vanilla Ice and whats-his-name.
