Shrek Forever After ($43.3 million) came back to beat Sex and the City 2 ($32.1 million) for the Friday-through-Sunday period this holiday weekend, taking the #1 spot at the box office after Sex had raced to a huge midnight Thursday/Friday take.

Hollywood icon Dennis Hopper died at his home on Saturday from complications of prostate cancer.

He was 74.

A two-time Oscar nominee whose movie career spanned more than four decades and films as diverse as “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Apocalypse Now,” and “Hoosiers,” Hopper was best known as the director-star of countercultural classic “Easy Rider.”
