DWTS’ Maksim tells Gossip Cop he spiked Karina’s cup but wasn’t trying to poison her

The Star washed out with a story about “Dancing with the Stars” former lovers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff.
According to the Star, at a Lipton Green Vitali Tea event in Los Angeles on September 20, “as soon as Karina’s back was turned and she put down her steaming cup, [Maksim] put liquid soap in it!”
What?!
The tab says tragedy was averted because her handler stopped Smirnoff from drinking the soap-spiked drink. Smirnoff then shot her ex-fiance “a dirty look,” claims the Star.
Relax, everyone. Chmerkovksiy didn’t try to harm her – and all the other details are basically wrong, too. For one, the Emmys were on September 20th – and Chmerkovksiy and Smirnoff were at the awards show performing, not at an event that day. They were, however, at the Lipton Green Vitali Tea gifting lounge the day before.
And Chmerkovksiy didn’t surreptitiously try to poison Smirnoff. They were doing a taste test. Chmerkovksiy correctly guessed all four teas and, since he’s fiercely competitive, he told Gossip Cop, via his rep, “I wanted her to lose, so I put facial cream in her tea.” Yes, facial cream – not soap – from the gifting suite. He maintains it was completely a joke. According to Chmerkovksiy, everyone (except the Star) knew it was just a gag. Admittedly, we’ve heard of better pranks.
Still, Gossip Cop knows for a fact that Chmerkovskiy would never have even dreamed of hurting Smirnoff, with whom he was on the verge of reconciling. Sadly, however, these days the ex-lovers’ feelings are poisoned.
